a_burgeryeah I don't really get it either, makes sense if the knobs would actually stop you like the rail sugarbush has but whats the point, to rip your edges out sooner? plastic corrugateds won't fuck your edges up at least.
*St4th0s*the one at sugarbush is hardly noticeable, and it doesn’t acually slow you down. the knobs aren’t made by the park crew, but is part of the stock of metal they got. that being said it is a little annoying, and yeah it probably hurts you edges a little bit more, idk it makes a cool noise and can gauge how fast your going on a rail. it really doesn’t get in the way
a_burgerI was referring to the one at 1:44 in this video. the knobs actually change how the rail works and you have to do something other than straight slide it, makes it a unique feature worth sacrificing a flat/down tube for.
https://www.newschoolers.com/videos/watch/759247/The-Weakend-in-VTlike I get the concept I suppose it makes sense at a place like Carinthia where they have hundreds of rails and the welder probably got bored one day, but I agree with OP it would be a waste of materials at a lot of smaller mountains. You can never go wrong with the standard down rail (unless thats the only thing you have in your park, but thats another subject)

theabortionatorIm somewhat neutral. With how good people have gotten and increased creativity they are great.
On the othet hand I dont think id ever build one for a park I was running. The smaller the mtn and being under the lift is better, but even with "look before you leap" people are still going to hit it and get a hell of a surprise.
I mean Ive def hit rails before and found out it was a donkey. Nbd but youre like oh shit and then pop off the end.
Even if youve checked out the rails, in a big park with contsantly changing feature you're not going to remember the whole layout after a lap or two.
Loon built one for street cred 6 years ago. That was the first I saw one at a mtn. 30 footer with6 ish 1/4 skatestoppers. It was sick bu5 it was only in for a contest.
Sugarbush had a flat rail with two nobs half way and at the far end.Being they were fairly big, painted orange, and on a flat rail it was fine.
I dont really think down rails with knobs are a good idea in parks. If you do it thats great but I personally don't want to be resposible for somebody getting smoked in one. Not even just from a lawsuit standpoint. If somebody hit it thinking it was a nirmsl down rail, donkey whatever and got destroyed on it, id feel pretty shitty.
I could wrap a chain around one halfway to make it more street. It could be fun, but I would never do that in the park.
Idk, the line of things is a bit blurred, but I think theres a point where things can def go to far. Parks should be creative and fun, but some things just arent needed in the parks imo.
