chef_boyardeeIn the video Tanner seems to think that him calling a 65 year old man retarded is basically ok because the meaning of the word has changed, just like how the word "fag" changed in the south park episode he mentioned. I personally think that's bullshit, cause although the n word, for instance, is used today as a word that many black people greet each other with and the meaning of the word has changed, it's still not ok for non-black people to say the word. It's the same with retard. Although many people today use the word to indicate stupidity rather than mental disabilities, you have to be aware that using the word will cause many people to be offended. Considering that 1 in 68 children are diagnosed with autism, I would say that there's a fair amount of people who have a friend or family member affected by such a disability and who will be offended by the use of such a derogatory term, and understandably so.
A grown man like Tanner should be above using such childish insults like retarded. Videos like this really cement the view that many people have of him as an asshole. Not saying he is, cause I don't know him, but bitter rants such as these certainly doesn't reflect him in a good light.

I'm not a liberal snowflake choosing to be offended by every trivial issue i come across, my brother was diagnosed with autism when he was 5 and it has impacted his life in many negative ways, so i find it disappointing when people use retarded as an insult. When tanner uses the derogatory term "retarded" and then goes on a rant about how people are getting too easily offended, I respectfully disagree. All I'm saying is that there are lots of people whose lives are affected by various mental disabilities who would rather people don't use retard as an insult all the time.

That's a really good point. I see nothing wrong with the word retarded itself, since it is a medical term like you said. But when the word is used constantly as an insult and a synonym for stupidity, that's when i take issue.

It just became a buzzword when neoconservative fox news viewing mouth breathers started watching too much Hannity and Glenn Beck and started throwing it around as an insult.
Now they are all taking it a step further with "Libtard" which, not only isn't even remotely a good portmanteau, but is also just an extremely low-brow thing to say.

Also I’m not “triggered” by any of this I’m just looking for insight into other people’s ideas. I would not necessarily classify myself as concervative or liberal, and I still don’t really see any thing wrong with what Tanner is doing, he’s just speaking his mind in his way, that’s cool.

PC. I'm quite the liberal socialist actually and I despise many republican policies, but I guess I'm repub enough to view the word "liberal" as derogatory as well. So many extremists out there that are just as dumb as your rural conservative hick in Mississippi, really. The only difference is the radical liberals live in big cities with much larger populations around them so they view their world views as the right ones, but both sides are so removed from reality and totally brainwashed. Social media has created such a divide.
