trim clips real right (i.e, you don't need to show the entire inrun to the feature from the top of the hill, ect)

Make your edit flow, different angles, variety of features. Some people can make really good rails only edits, some vice versa. Figure out what you want to fill your edit with. Use a decent, not overused song. Practice makes perfect, keep editing and re-editing.

From my experience, this is pretty hard to accomplish for every single shot. But definitely try and aim for it as often as possible, especially on the landings of the best tricks in your edit.

Based on my own experience making edits, here's what i can recommend.

Before you even start the editing process, make sure your footage is not too shaky and try and keep the entire rider in the frame when you're filming. It's hard to make a good edit when your footage isn't good in the first place. Investing in some sort of stabilizer would be a good idea.

Song choice is key. Don't use a song that is used in other edits, and try to make sure that your song matches the intensity and pace of your edit. Ex. dont use waka flocka in an edit with mellow tricks. I also find that using more current songs is often better and more interesting, but that's only my opinion.

If you are using iMovie to edit, steer clear from all of its corny effects. iMovie is disrespected a lot, but I've actually seen some decent edits made with it. But if premiere or final cut are options, then I would 100% go with those.

Also use slow motion sparingly. Using slow mo to emphasize certain parts of tricks, rather than the entire trick. Edits with way too much slowmo tend to be looked down upon.

Don't repeat tricks. Should be obvious, but a lot of people do it anyway.

Watch other edits for inspiration and look at youtube tutorials if you're wondering how to learn specific effects.
