I joined an Antarctic Traverse and made a short film.

Shameless plug, but I am just super proud of this project from overcoming the many challenges of being a one man band shooter in a strange environment. I first started in video doing dinky ski edits as a 12 year old after watching ski movies on repeat. Since then, i've slowly made it into a living in the world of Science and Nature film. I owe a lot of my aesthetic to this community and the skiing community as a whole, so thanks y'all. Anyways, its really hard to get anyone to watch anything over 30 seconds on the internet but if you do watch it, hope you enjoy! What Antarctic 'traversers' do for a living is super cool, so I hope to do them justice through this film.

but you made it something completely different. It really made me feel invested in the journey and the process as a whole. The shots were terrific and the music was spot on. The way you shot it really showed who these guys were and what they did. I really enjoyed watching it and look forward to seeing more from you

Thank you so much! This means a whole lot. You are spot on with the storytelling challenges. Other than being in an exotic location, traversing is really pretty boring. My hope was to find ways to make a pretty monotonous existence into something thats a little exciting and most importantly, relatable. Its corny, but in editing and scoring the film I tried to translate my personal experience, which was being overwhelmed and intimidated by the equipment/people/landscape to becoming a part of the team and appreciating the sublime beauty of the landscape along with the personal connections built along the way. From an outsiders perspective, it seems that a lot of the contractors return to Antarctica year after year because of the certain kind of group bonding that happens when people share an experience as a true team in a unique environment away from technology.

Just watched it. I dig it man! Perfect length, didn't feel like it dragged on at all, although I could have kept watching. Thanks for sharing your experience with us!

Thanks so much for giving it a watch. Glad you enjoyed! I was lucky to not have a specific time limit so I could just edit and not worry about it.
