Ski size for next year

I am 5'4' and 120ish pounds, but but by next year I will probably be anywhere from 5'5 to 5'7, this was my first year skiing park and I can do most rails and some spins out, I can also 360 off of small jumps. What size ski would be the best for me next year?

Colingarnes170?

I was unsure about getting skis in 170 because they would be taller than me which would make it harder to learn spins.

Not if you're 5'7" next year!

How old are you? How tall do you think you'll be? How big are your parents? How many days do you ski? Are you expecting skis to last one season or longer?

I am 14 and I don't know how tall I'll be, my dad is 5'10' and my mom is 5'3' so I guessed anywhere between 5'5' and 5'7 , I try to ski 3 days a week from late december to the end of march. I wanted to get a pair that would last long but I don't know if it would be better to get a pair that are too big for next year and then fit the year after or to get skis that fit would fit me then and then would be small the next year.

bigger skis would be harder to spin but not as much as you think, I think sizing up has way more benefits that out weight being harder to spin

Thanks for the tip, should I look for a lighter ski if im getting a taller ski or does it not matter as much.

im 5 foot 4 and ski anything between 172-180, depends on the type of ski. I guess park i would go 170ish (but then again I dont own park skis :/ ). You want that stability out of a longer ski.

That would help for sure but that's just another thing you caould get used to like a longer length. But most park skis on the market are already pretty light compared to what they use to weight a few years back so if you picked up some lines or salomon/ atomic, or armadas, they will be pretty light. K2 tends to run on the heavy side but they are also pretty playful so that has it's upsides. If you post what kind of ski you are looking for it will be easier to give you usful info

Id say 170 is a good length, Im about 5,10 and I rode a 170 for 2 seasons before last season. Then I got new skis (182's) which I loved because the 170s were feeling small and would cause me to was out if i went too big on a jump. But this year I broke my 182 fat-ypus and ended up riding the 170 chronics again for a while and they were not that bad. I think 170 is a good intermediate length that should not be too long for you but will still be rideable if you get bigger.

I was looking at the Armada B-Dogs for mostly learning swaps and spins on rails, would it be a better idea to get them in 165 or 172?

Sizing is really preference. My skis go up to my head and I personally think they're too long but if you are growing and plan on keeping your skis for a couple seasons, I get them at your height. But I wouldn't go taller than your height. Because if you're getting into park, it'll make it harder to spin and learn tricks. Maybe 163s for now. By the time youre 5'7", they'll be up to your eyes which is the ideal spot for most people

Don't risk getting a taller ski that's lightweight either because that means the material in the skis might not be that strong especially if you're just getting into park because you're going to fall, a good amount once you start processing and you need a ski to bare you. You should get a pair of skis at least your height so you grow into them.

False. Pretty sure most people would want their skis about an inch taller than them... Eye level is WAY too short.

165cm is too short for you. Especially if you wanna grow into them. They are at your current height too short imo. Go low 170's.

At my current height they are taller me, why would they be too small?

They are like .3 inches taller than you. You won't use them till next year. You want to be able to grow into them right? Not be a little too tall for them when you finally get to use them

Well what kind of skiing are you doing? Backcountry? Because I go to snow a lot and ski east coast. A lot of people around here have skis eye level, or head level

So you're saying he has to wait a season to even use them? He wants skis to use when the season starts up. So in that case, he should wait till August, get his height measured again, and go possibly an in over head or head level.

It's personal opinion. Not everyone has their skis head level. It depends the riding you do. If you're doing park, why would you get a ski taller than your head? It makes it harder to control them. Especially in park when you can cross them. I say eye to head level is perfect but again, it's specific to the person and since he's learning park, I think he should get them eye, or a little above eye height. So that means get them like an in above head level or a couple cm cause that won't make a huge difference. And you're also skiing on West coast. Of course kids have long skis when they're mobbing Backcountry. Lol That's if they don't have a separate Backcountry setup
