Weight thread?

But what do they weigh with skins on them- thats the big question.

Just wanted to update this thread now that the Atomic shifts are in hand, not that anyone was waiting on updates to this thread but what the fuck. I put the shifts on my trusty Salter stainless steel kitchen scale and with the 100mm brake they weigh 898g per side, there was zero variation between the two measurements.

It looks like 4FRNT no longer sells prefab skins for this ski. Thoughts on sizing? I have read through various how-tos on cutting but I'd like to minimize cutting as much as possible. Black Diamond's ultralight mix skins are really light, but the skin tip is annoying.

For wider skis like yours, I say go with a G3 Momix. It will be light, and easy to attach. Also, G3 has a tail attachment that would work better for your skis, so horray.

From what I've read mohair is better for lighter snowpack and nylon is better for heavier wetter snowpack.

I primarily ski Tahoe, does this have any bearing on you recommendation for the mix skins?

Also I'm good buying 120s and trimming out a bit of waist on each side right?

Would it ever be acceptable to buy 108s or 110s and have a few mm of exposed base bear the tips and tails?

I'm not a very large individual 5'7, 140lbs if this makes any difference in how much grip I'll need to move myself uphill.

1. Mohair is fine for Tahoe. I've used it on rose and andesite and relay and incline. It's fine. When shit gets steep it may lack purchase, but wax your skins and that will help. Either way, know that nylon is always heaviest, but has the stiffest bristles.

2. For your skis, probably Get 125 from BD or 130 from G3. Pomoca's are overpriced.

3. Doesn't matter your size. You gotta add like 30lb or more for your pack and all your gear. Every gram counts.

Thanks for your advice! I'll get shopping and post when I have some skins on the scale, boots, pack I'll try to weigh everything down the road. I'm obviously not down the ultralight path as the skis are not ultra light and I choose the shift for inbounds usage. The weights will just be out of curiosity more than anything.

Put on Dynafit super light 2.0 with brakes: 185g
Scarpa Maestrale: 1400g

3000$ with climbing skins. Thats what I call throwing money at a problem

~2600g total weight setup is a major gamechanger
Haven't skied them in anything but ice or corn (got them for steep skiing), though I've heard they hold there own in pow (likely not pnw pow)
