Lincoln LS swap from automatic to manual

Is it logical to do this? The car is really nice and the v8 can take up to almost 1000hp (not like i will ever achieve that) but all of the v8 (good) variants are automatic. Any suggestions?

Edit: i think im just gonna go with a e39 540 or a e46 330. Ive been finding better deals on them recently so.

If you like the car enough and have the time/funds it's absolutely worth it. A manual gearbox livens any car up especially a V8, autos just make them feel mushy and held back.

Why though? Do you really want to spend all the money just to have a sleeper? Why not just buy a 'stang? Or an ex-police crown vic or something?

You're talking about $1000s of dollars with no hope to recoup anything upon resale.

Maybe you should explain a little more thoroughly what your project goals are with this car because that sounds like you're going to spend 2 grand to essentially downgrade a car that's worth 2 grand for not really any particular reason.

Well hopefully i can get it to 500hp and use it as a track car. The automatic cant handle that much hp. but if i get it now ill use it as my daily for a while. Ik manuals arnt the best for dailies but i still would rather drive a manual. And by the way a manual transmission is much faster than an automatic transmission from 2002.Nowadays i would say that automatics are faster with dual clutch and stuff but back then automatics were slowind down 0-60 times by as much as .3-.4s

The manual trans will be more fun to drive in general. Dailying a manual isn't bad at all unless you are extremely lazy and don't like driving to begin with.

If there is no car that you would rather have for the money you'll be sending then go for it. If you build it up enough and do it right the value will go up, not down. If you plan on doing it yourself and aren't a professional, have something else to drive in the meantime though.

I live 20 minutes from New York City and am in light traffic everyday. Unless you're dealing with traffic like in that picture every single day, it's worth having a manual.

Edit: in the opinion of someone who likes cars and driving obviously, which I’m assuming is op considering he wants to build a project car

And the chassis can't handle that much track car.

I ONLY drive manuals unless I have a rental. I just think there are lots of better options to start with. Are there and cars on the same chassis with the engine you have that came equipped with a manual? Otherwise you're going to spend a lot of time or money or both just fabbing kit to get it all the work together.

I understand your want to do it just think you'd be better served starting with a more capable platform.

Here ya go, sounds like you'll have to hunt for a manual jag, or buy a v6 that came with a 5 speed and deal with 2 less cylinders. Way to much money to do the swap if it's really even worth it.

I live in a pretty brutal area for traffic, basically in the center of silicon valley. I had an autotragic truck for a year, it was soul-sucking and lifeless so I traded it on a six-speed tacoma and am much, much happier, even when driving up hills in San Francisco traffic.

Well first of all, im going to end up spending thousands of dollars on this car anyways so just saying "why are you spending money on a sleeper" is pretty irrelevant to me. A crown vic is not even in the same category as the LS. Maybe stock it is but you can get the LS V8 version up to 1000hp, which (im not positive but im assuming) you cant get even close to in a crown vic. (aside from hp i think that the crown vic is ugly. Also i can make money on resale. There is a huge community of enthusiasts who love the LS, except everyone wishes it was an manual. Aside from this it a $2000 car. im planning on driving it into the ground. Oh and about the mustang, no. I would either go for a newer (05-06) non gt at be the douchebag driving a v6 mustang, or go with the 90s gt and be the douchebag driving a 90s mustang. Plus i need a four door, but even if i didnt, a mustang would still be my last choice.

Why not find the whole driveline from a V8 stang and swap it over. 4.6L Ford V8s in both. Shouldn't be that hard. May have to fab some mounts on the frame in various places. Or pull a manual out of a similar year stang. Maybe need an adapter but those should be available.

thats not a bad idea but i think im gonna grab an 02 540i. Same hp, good looking car, 4 doors, manual, same price, and i wouldnt have to deal with a swap. Thanks tho

You'll have fun, my mechanic had to sell his manual v8 540 cause he knew he'd spend a lot on speeding tickets, you also won't have to deal with bullshit swapping a pretty normal car to manual. You'll have headaches getting horsepower going up cause it'll be an old bmw..

not entirely sure why you would choose this car, it would be worth more than the car is to put the trans into it.

it would also cost an arm and a leg, and most likely your first born child to double the power output. It doesn't even look like all that well balanced of a vehicle.

I would say 100% better unless traffic or road tripping with people who cant drive stick.

If your right arm is in a sling is shitty to. Ive been shifting left arm since end of march. Just started shifting right hand yesterday.

Stay away from wrxs. They have weak transmissions and all of them have been abused. All my buddies that had/have them have had lots of issues with rings and transmissions.

How do you get the head gaskets to last long enough to blow a transmission?

Seriously though, I had a 2010, it was an awesome car. The used WRX market is treacherous, the cheap ones (which are rare) are abused/savaged, and the decent looking lowish mileage ones are horribly overpriced. You can't win unless you buy new and ride out most of the depreciation curve.
