Tele vs. Alpine

What is the difference between tele skis and alpine skis. I always see skis that say telemark on them. Like Atomic and K2 I know make specilty tele skis. Is there a difference in flex or something. Why don't people just mount tele bindings on regular skis.

(And why do tele skis have a hole in the tip?)

tele skis are softer, i'm not sure but i think the tails are softer too. burly tele skiers pride themselves on mountain alipine skis with tele bindings.

actually almost all tele specific skis are the exact same ski as an alpine model. The only change is the topsheet, no flex difference. Tele-ers just wanna be set apart with their own shit.

often the same ski, just cheaper. The hole in the tips is for boot packing. When you have you skis A-frame on your pack, you can clip/tie the tips together for more stability.

Also people use the holes in tips for anchor placement. Kinda like a picket, if you know what that is, or to pull them out after making a T-Slot Anchor.

you can also use the holes in the tip to tie together the skis and have a make-shit sled incase someone get injured in the backcountry.

my skis have holes in the tips and tails... but their full of metal rivets

i actually didn't know why some tele skis had holes in the tips, so that was enlightening. I was under the impression that there is a different flex pattern for tele and alpines, but maybe not. the k2 teles do have pre-drilled mounting inserts specifically for tele bindings, so thats a difference, albeit not much of one
