Alright, so Alta closes next week and I'm finally upgrading my '12 specialized enduro. I love that bike but it's beat to shit. I wouldn't dare make this thread on pinkbike. I'm a major biking Jerry (what's a Jerry in biking terms)? Anywho, I'm gonna buy used but I want to be a smart buyer. Some standouts are another enduro, SB6, reign, nomad, range or spartan. Anybody have personal experience with any of those? Are there any that I should avoid or some that pedal better than others?

If you're just going to be riding normal trails with a fair bit of climbing, get a YT jeffsy. If you're going to be doing more aggressive descending or bike park riding, get a YT capra. Links to both:

As far as brands to avoid, don't get a Fezzari, and I'd stay away from Santa Cruz and Yeti given that those brands have a dentist stereotype associated with them. Good luck man!

Hahaha somebody else said the exact same thing to me yesterday about yeti and specialized being dentist bikes. But I'm not in the bike scene enough to care about stereotypes I just want something that rides well. What's so great about YT bikes? You really need to sell me here.

YEah they are called Joeys and i'd avoid any bmx bikes unless you just graduated elementary

They are a direct to consumer company which makes them cheaper and usually better specced than other brands. I can't say anything about riding them. Another bike to look at is the Intense Tracer or Recluse(which i have ridden) and those are both killer bikes.

I'd take a look at the pivot bikes. I have demoed them 3 times and they are amazing. Mach 5.5 is a really fun bike and the one I would buy if I had the money for it. Can't really go wrong with Yeti either, I own 2 XC racing bikes from them. Also might want to check out Canyon bikes. They are a direct to consumer bike company so things aren't quite as expensive but I haven't had a chance to demo there bikes yet.

I'd vouch for the YT Capra. I don't own one personally but my friend has one and it pedals pretty well uphill but can tackle bike park stuff too.

I ride at Trestle Bike Park often on my Specialized Demo and my friend is right behind me (or in front sometimes) on all the same trails, even the gnarlier stuff (though with that said, Trestle doesn't have as much gnarly stuff as say, Angel Fire).

Not to mention that YT has great prices with their direct sale thing they have.

Double post, but also depending on what you are riding (if you are looking to climb more) maybe do the YT Jeffsy instead.

Depends on what you are riding. Bikes nowadays are very capable and I'm sure you could still get somewhat rowdy in the park on a Jeffsy.

I’m trying to get more comfortable in the bike park so I’d probably go with the Capra. I don’t have the skill set to get sendy on a trail bike. Does the direct sales thing translate to a big price difference in used bikes as well?

Plus Greg Minnarr completely snapped his Santa Cruz frame in half lmao. Would never touch a Santa Cruz bike after seeing that. (Yes I know I would never be riding at the same level as him, but I definitely crash a lot more -so both points are cancelled out)

I've been riding the Pivot Mach 6 for three seasons and switched over to the 5.5 I'm not going to convince you to try or not to try it. Seems like people around here buy because of the name on the bike not how it rides. All the bikes you are looking at are good bikes. Some will fit you better than others. When I'm spending that kind of money why wouldn't you try as many as you can?

If you are close to lift accessed downhill then you should 100% get it, if only for the fact that it isn't practical for 95% of riders.

I got to rent out the Norco Range for a few days. Fucking love the bike; 6 and 6, solid geometry, lockout and seat dropper. Rode freeride trails like it was easy. the petal uphill isnt too bad either.

Honestly just make dam sure that the brakes suspension and frame are solid anf that the bike fits your size, as for the amount of travel go with 160-200 for bike parks (no pedaling up) probably like 130-170 for trail the more agressive desents more travel more agressive climbs, less travel (lockout helps) and then if you are an xc boss man just get a hardtail with like 140 and get fucken sendie

Lol wym if your ob a budget thats your best bet
And most expensive replacements arw the three parts i listed also as far As suspension I dont have the luxury if the west coast where I ride it can get pretty rough and bottom out alot, also those are the best places to loom for a bike if you are being money consious as well as the fact that if a bike does not fit your size you are gonna have a bad time
