Getting to hood today, Ive heard there’s camping everywhere, does that mean campgrounds or that its just valid to throw a tent up in the woods? Anyone have some spots or good advice?
Th air strip is one of those spots where you throw up a tent in the woods. When I was up there last weekend, the road to get there was still closed from too much snow. The legit campgrounds are open and you are supposed to pay something like $10 a night The campgrounds have outhouses and enclosed fire-pits os thats kinda nice. I'd still rather avoid the fee and do hood shit in the woods. Anyone have an off the path-type spot besides the air strip?
Crust_StationJust got off the mountain, want to set up camp, anyone got anything?
Stays light till after 8 tonight so I'd probably drive down the hill a little. Head down 35 and there are some pretty legit spots likewise if you head down 26 a little. Use the google. Forest service has their rules so look them up if you want to be totally legit. Don't know exactly where there's snow or not because we had new snow down low just over a week ago. Have fun OP.
"Camping outside campgrounds is permitted in many parts of the Mt. Hood National Forest. Camping is permitted for 14 consecutive days and up to 28 days on the Forest in a calendar year. Some areas are closed to camping or entry to protect the watershed or wildlife habitat. If you are uncertain whether an area is open, please contact a Forest Service office."
