Best Charger/Park Ski

Obviously they're rather opposite...but with that considered in your guys opinion what's best all around big mountain charger/park ski? Know quite a few skis but looking for opinions, a soft playful ski that can still handle it's own is ideal... Pows not much of a factor.

So you are looking for a soft big mountain charger that does not need to be good in powder?

what exactly are you looking to ride on these skis? Is it a park ski that can still rip groomers and handle a few steep lines

for that really you don't want to go too soft. A stiffer ski will hold an edge far better and you will be able to drive the ski much harder.

Get back with what you want to ski and we and we can make some recommendations.

Although this probably isn't going to help you but I'm in the exact same boat as your for next year's ski. I've done way too much research and I'd say my top picks in order are

1.K108
2.Magnus102
3. CT 2.0

So you are definitely on the right track. Now... Deciding between those three is gonna be the bitch.

k108's are money. They are really playful and also a damp ski that can charge hard. Its a little heavy for rails at first if your not used to it but thats the trade off for a solid all mountain platform.

Awesome, someone who has been on one. My buddy has last year's Mag's and they definitely have some stiffness to the tips. Gnarly rocker tho.. would you say the wider one is actually a little softer? Might throw that off the list then.

Thanks for the feedback about this ski, I was unfortunately afraid of that. Definitely going to check out the marksman. Seems like k108 might be at the top of the list right now...and for the guy asking I ski at squaw.

From what I read they softened up the magnus 90 a decent amount and the 102 is slightly stiffer than the new 90.

The marksman is for sure a rad option. It's for sure not a charger, it's pretty soft rip and tail but it does have great torsional stiffness so it can rip a turn really hard. I had those, the catamaran, poacher and Sight this season and rode the marksman more then any of the others. It's ok in the park but for sure not a park ski but to be honest no ski which can charge is going to be good in the park. If park is cruising laps and not really trying to push your self to learn new stuff then the marksman is great. If you still want to progress then the poacher is a way better choice. No it won't float in pow but you said that is not a priority. Again it's stiff torionaly and if anything slightly stiffer in the top and tail too so again it craves really well.

Icelantic Nomad 105 is one that comes to mind. Same ski as the Nomad RKR or any other Nomad after 2014 or so.

surface outsiders are what you're looking for. mega stiff, but the obscene rocker makes them feel like a soft ski when you get up on the noses or tails. they actually have some pretty good camber underfoot and hold edges better than my poachers. stiff and rockered lets them bust through crud like none other. they're incredibly light considering the width. I leaned basically every trick I have in the park on them, jumps and rails. most fun ski I've ever ridden hands down

I’ve checked those out, I feel like they may be a little wide and heavy for what I am looking for...even thinking the k108 might be too wide...but I’m not sure

they're significantly lighter than poachers. 109 is pretty fat though.

Odd, their website shows the ski as a 112 under their dimensions but I now see it’s a 109 as printed on their ski. Hmm. Maybe I’m overthinking all of this for a ski that can perform well in all conditions

Also noticed k2’s longest skis are 184 and I’m 6’4ish so really under 188 won’t work unless it’s on3p’s true 186 lengths

I use to have 186 jmos and they are about the same as a 184 k2. K2 are amongst the longest out there.

But yeah i ah I think you really want two skis. Trying to find a ski which can be awesome in and out of the park is hard. You can find them but they will never be as good as more dedicated skis.

Poachers? Medium stiff, still butterable, hold edge really well, can charge. I'd say this is one of the best bets for your criteria

I have a pair...super fun ski once in a while. But if it wasn't for the rocker this ski is pretty dam stiff in my opinion.

If you are a west coast skiier the K108 is right up your alley for an everyday everything ski. You can just search K108 hashtag on insta. People rip those things freestyle/park and can still charge/Huck and hit the occasional pow day. I'm gonna be either copping that or the CT2.0 if I want a slightly less chargy more playful ski than the K108

Thinking this might be the call...just don’t want anything too skinny to where it doesn’t perform in a bit of corn or the occasional several day left over pow. Seems to charge rather hard too. Would going with the softer stock be too soft to charge in then? I would be only 165ish on a 186 ski...

It is a really nice size. From what i have read and seen it isn't a "charger" but it's definitely a fun ski that you can take all over the mountain. Poppy and buttery.

I'd take my PB&J's over my K108's for an everyday non-pow ski at squaw. I don't know the history, but I bet the pb&j was probably designed in good part at squaw...

I always grab my Bibbys when there is any amount of fresh snow, so I haven't experienced that. I've heard they handle that kind of depth just fine. It's actually probably a blast in 6-10" resort pow since it's really fun in slushy chop conditions.

interesting...I was just slightly worried about a park ski being so stiff but I guess that’s the territory of a do it all ski.

I think it's a matter of personal preference and how you plan to use it. Big mountain charger vs park ski is pretty different, so you have to decide where you want to live on the spectrum. If you want a buttery park ski then it's probably not the right call for you. I think the stiffness feels great on landings. Also squaw is steep so I'd want something that isn't going to fold underneath me. Just my 2 cents

Had mine out in a surprise pow day. They float pretty well for the waist width and are surfy for how stiff they are. Obviously they aren't a pow ski but they handle it just fine.

Pb&j would be ideal for what you say you want. Stiff enough to be stable at speed off piste but light and playful enough that you can whip it around in the air. I wouldn't consider the Ct 2.0 as that's a symetrical jib noodle.

Find an old K2 shreditor 92/102, or buy some On3p Kartels in your width choice. K2s are jibbier, On3ps faster/damper, but both are fast and playful.

second the shreditor 102s, ive skied my buddy 177 which are a little small for me but i was still comfortable bombing on them, supper buttery and playfull

I thought my 2014 shreditor 102 was kind of a noodle. Fun to play around on, but I wouldn't call it a charger.

it charges well for how soft it is, deffinently wouldnt recomend if you were over 170 or 180 cause you might over power them

Dude Armada ARV 96. I live the the ice coast. And I love to go fast and while they are quite buttery they rip on fast groomers not as well as a stiffer ski but I have found out that when asked to they hold an edge

This depends a lot on how aggressive you ski, I ski fairly aggressive and found the Kartels to be a little soft but still very fun, but if you don't ski the ski it will ski you

I have been in everything from 8-10" of fresh powder to steep groomers and these 2.0's have to be one of the few skis I feel are fitting of the 'all mountain' name

I swear everyone that has no experience with the 2.0 right them off as strictly park noodles... Yet everyone who owns them raves about their capabilities.

Yeah well pretty much everyone raves about the skis they are on. Reality is all the skis that have been mentioned are probably fun. If you pick one and it doesn't charge hard enough for you, or isn't playful enough for you, just get better at skiing.

The ARV96 does not rip groomers or chop it's not that stable at speed. The ski is great fun but does not charge.

OP, if you can afford a new set of Kartel 108s, why not buy a charger and a park ski? Either used or last years for either one? What's your budget?

Didn’t know there was something wrong with doing your homework and getting opinions before spending $700 lol. One last question. Is riding the k108 in Park super feasible? I’m pretty bad at park so it’s not like I’m doing a ton of swaps or anything... and for the guy asking about buying two pairs I tend to ride in and out of park on non pow days so would rather not switch skis.
