Painting New Line Sick Days

Just bought a pair of Line Sick Day 104s and thinking of sanding the tips and tails and (spray) painting them so the skis are one uniform color. Don't like the bright blue color at all and doesn't work with the rest of my gear (very superficial i know). Not looking to draw on them or anything

From the older threads this seems to be the recommended process
Sand down starting with 80 grit / finishing with 120

2 coats of Krylon Fusion plastic spray paint

2 coats of Krylon fusion clear coat

Don't really give a shit if they dont look super clean

I know there is a bunch of threads but they're a couple years old at this point, so just wanted to know if anyone had any additional tips or if they painted their skis a couple years ago, realized it was a dumb idea and would recommend not doing it myself

The topsheet on these skis is awesome. I have the 94s, super fun ski. You'll have a blast on the 106!

Totally agree, just got a lot of blue going on and dont want to look like a blueberry

Its gonna look way shittier if you spray paint your skis and they're gonna chip like nobody's business. Get new pants or something instead if you're really that concerned about too much blue.

Really this. That is a great ski and if it's the ski you want who cares what it looks like? But they look sick too so just ski them and enjoy them.

Ski graphics are pretty subjective. Can definitely disagree with the idea but stop telling me they look awesome. Not saying they dont but everyone likes different stuff / has different preferences

How much does half a yard of vinyl weigh? If you want it to look good for more than a day of skiing rattle canning is not the way to go.

Anyone use plasti-dip? At least that way when it starts to get jacked up you can peel the rest off.

Yeah but do you really want to lose the warrenty by day grinding down the top sheet? Honestly graphics mean zero to how a ski works so if you like the ski just enjoy how they ski and don't worry about how they look.

They look awesome. Plus they're super bright for when you fall in a tree well. Unless you got these for a steal, you're an idiot for buying brand new skis with graphics you hate with the intention of sanding, repainting, and voiding your warranty. There's plenty of other similar sick days and other skis without the bright graphics.

Do you like green? Paint with yellow transparent gloss over the blue and BOOM, green skis. You have now transformed a blueberry to a pickle.

But good luck repainting. Even though you don't like the blue, as someone said earlier, you'll probably make them look worse if you try to paint them.

Plasti dip sucks. We had a kid who painted his helmet with that shit in lacrosse and it looked like garbage. Plus it will add a decent about of weight. If you do paint, use some sort of spray paint and then a second high gloss layer so it doesn't look old and shitty. Its still gonna be a challenge to make the overcoat look even.

just wanted to check if anyone had some tips / advice for painting, chilllll. there are other sick days in different waist lengths, so that seems idiotic / extremely superficial to switch waist lengths or buy a ski that’s not exactly what I’m looking for because of the top sheet. Settled on the sick day because it has the rocker / camber profile I like, good weight for touring but reviews still say it’s skis heavier than it weights. Spent a lot of time looking for a ski that works for me and didn’t find many alternatives, so even thought I don’t like the top sheet, I went with the sick day. Anticipate being 100% happy with the ski from a skiing perspective, just wanted to investigate modifying it slightly. I think not buying a ski that fits your needs because of the top sheet is much more idiotic that buying a ski that works for you even though you don’t like the top sheet

I’m aware the top sheet doesn’t affect the performance of the ski, I just don’t like it but other than that the ski is exactly what I’m looking for, which is why I bought it. So I’m trying to make it work, I care how my gear looks together, sue me. And it’s not ideal but I’d probably void the warrently to be completely satisfied with the ski

Tell the guys at line to stop making bright colored skis

Yes yes and yes, it would be dope to paint them white then draw all over the with oil paint pens

If you sand the topsheet down, you'll void the warranty, no doubt. But they're your skis. And they're damn fun.

Regardless, if you give it a go and put some killer art on it, we'd be hyped to see what you come up with; post it here or drop me an email (will@lineskis.com).

hahaha im newish to the site and didnt notice the upvote / downvote thing. People are not fans! Finished the skis but definitely did not do anything interesting, just matte black over the graphics. I am happy with them now, downvote away!

Ended up with the exact same process i originally talked about in the first post:

Sand down starting with 80 grit / finishing with 120

2 coats of Krylon Fusion plastic spray paint

2 coats of Krylon fusion clear coat

Have about 4 days on them and holding up really well, the Krylon doesn't appear to chip at all. Just make sure to sand very well and do thin coats of spray paint
