Race bases for park

So I have some Rossi Smash7s and would like to use them in the park, but are race bases ok for the park or are they not quite as durable as reg bases, Because I dont wanna ruin my skis by going off a few rails/boxes. Thanks for any advice

What do you mean by "Race Base"?

Are you talking about the underside of the ski being in racing condition? freshly smoothed, and waxed with no real scrapes


OR

Are you talking about the plastic pieces that are mounted on the ski, and then the binding is mounted on them to add stiffness and raise your binding up. (I've always called these "race plates")

Aren't the extruded bases just cheaper? Or is there anothet bennefit i the park.

it's not just extruded vs sintered, there are different qualities and characteristics to them. also extruded is garbage

OP yeah you can def use race bases in the park. a few park (well, pipe) skis have had race bases. just means more maintenance really. i wish i could have em on all my skis

Jokers like Line will sometimes toss some garbage line like "durable and low maintenance" into the marketing blurb but no you're right, it's just cheaper is all

Line makes some god awful skis. Only some of their high end pow sticks are even remotely comparable...entry level garbage

The edges are what you really need to worry about. The super sharp racer edges are going to catch on a rail and send you flying

The Wallish is one of the best park skis in my opinion. No skis will be for everyone but to call out a whole brand is a pretty stupid statement really.

technically any good ski will have a slithered base nowadays (except for line kids skis). basically extruded is cheaper to manufacture, but is less desirable because, A. they don't hold wax like slithered bases do( thus, making them slower), B. extruded bases are softer so therefore they get beaten up more and are less durable. so, therefore, races bases are perfectly fine, just keep in mind that rails and boxes will still put wear and tear on all ski bases and edges. so if your planning on racing with them I would recommend getting a spare pair of skis for hitting boxes and rails.

I started riding park on Smash 7's 2 springs ago, were good for my first ski for a year.

Also FYI the smash does not have a race base I'm not sure it even has a sintered base. It's a cheap tweener ski.

I mean one weekend I had my race skis, because I left my park skis at home, and I did some park and could 360 and front 2 them, so it really doesn't effect preformance for easy tricks

i don't think it's that stupid. the whole point of a brand is to be a mark or standard of excellence. line has some excellent skis but the variance in quality between, e.g., their ($1000!) magnum opus and their lower end skis is massive, and their pricing and lame-ass marketing approach would never help you navigate those differences. i sometimes see their "price point" tiger snake costing more than armada arv86s, like give me a fucking break haha

in other words, yes they have some good skis but their price-to-utility/quality ratio is NOT consistent and dependable and for that reason i don't think it's silly at all to call them out or to just not be impressed with them as a brand

i'm sure plenty of kids will cry out at that because their breakfast cereal-style marketing is so pervasive here but it's true, ive watched Line develop as a company since 1999 and they're just not as dependable as other companies
