yo me too. im currently trying to purchase this van im trying to get out there by august. it will also be my first time.

im thinking of going there for a week before i head out on my great summer adventure.

The first time one of my friends went to Hood was in August I believe. There was literally one jump that you had to hike from the video he showed me. All I can say is that it's not the ideal time to be there, but it will be open. Windells dosen't have any sessions in August either... Just going to throw out this random thought here too. I went to tline on some random summer day. The public park was pretty trash, only a few features up. The camps are higher up on the mountain, so when the snow line recedes the public park is the first thing to go. So me and my friend decided to try and get into the windells camp. We skiied up to the entrance and just stopped and looked around, kinda hesitated. (life tip: when you do something fucking own it and make it look like you belong) I can't remember exactly what was said... but I hear this guy get on the radio saying that we looked like two guys that weren't campers. Obviously they don't want jerrys ruining the features so they have a guy to keep people out. I hear on the radio "they look fine" or something like that idk was a while ago. So you can "sneak in" but it is not a for sure thing by any means. This other time I went to check out the marshmellow camp or whatever the fuck the snowboarder camp is. The guy at the gate took one look at my skis and told me to fuck off. I am also pretty sure that you can only buy a day pass in the summer

it does depends a lot on the summer though, one year you could ski from top to magic mile when i was there. another year you couldnt lap palmer in early july, still a lot of fun to eat up top and ride a few rails though.

Thanks for being honest. i really just wanted a excuse to travel cross the country and hood is the perfect destination. what kind of hike is it to the public park or up topper area for summer shred july-august, i wanted to car camp in hopes a friend of mine hooks me up with a j-o-b to fund me livingness for awhile to really just live completely didnt then i currently do. skiing is a perfect way to do so.

From what I gather, it is ideal to go before they even start building the windells park. At that point more of the resources must be focused on the public park. I went last May for the first time and it was wonderful, tons of immaculate features

im pretty sure park ]designers, not maintenance are different people. The issue is that they make a lot of their money by selling lanes, which are up high and have a deeper base deeper into the year so timberline has to put the park where they can if the snow gets iffy, but public park is usually pretty amazing regardless.

Yeah, no it's two different park crews. They may share groomers but the parks are managed pretty independently. Public park is always sick.

im looking to drive across the country on the 21st ski throught the 28th and fly back while my homie will be staying out there.
any one have any idea on a couch or anything i could crash for id say four nights? or a tent i could barrow so my luggage will only be gear.

Spring 18 update: DirtYStylE was down Sat and Sun and greased the XL DFD rail. Weather was so nice I should have brought a camera. Palmer opened on Sunday.

Yeah man I wanted to give you a big shout out for meeting up with me and supplying the goods! Made my weekend so much better when you came in clutch with extra water and such.

Looks like a chance of rain and snow next weekend so I might pass on camping. There is just something special about sunny spring days at hood when its 50 degrees... Cinco de mayo is going to be warm and partly cloudy so you will catch me outside that weekend.

The park is currently in its prime. Everything was open on Sunday. Spray paint had 30-40ft that were borderline step-ups. The lip of the kicker was the height of the knuckle basically. They also had a crazy amount of pop that gave you as much air time as a larger flatter jump. Further down on paintbrush they had a flow park (is this the proper name?) hips, spines, quarter pipe, half pipe, rollers and of course the signature s-rail at the bottom. This is the first time I saw a halfpipe here. Usually their biggest jump is where the half pipe is. They really dialed in spray paint so this might be why.

Conways (medium park) was basically the same 4 15-25ft jumps with the rails and boxes below.

They made some really big changes to the small park. You can hit the smaller 10 ft jumps and cut back over to the rail section below conways or cut over to the 2nd half of the small park for a few more small jumps and short rails.
