I dont have a choice when I get to go there cause im 14 and I dont get to choose where to go so im just trying to get informed with what im up with. Also my standards are not that high as i ski in michigan

Id recommend scaring your pants off on some of the basins unique terrain. Its just... great. Also as said before, it has been snowing pretty good this week. coverage is pretty good

Ya except the snow is shit. I live 10 mintues from A bay and there claiming they got 25 plus inches which is bull shit. The snow is ok considering how bad this season has been. Was up there today and it was ok at best.

You’re crazy... I went Sat and Sun and they definitely got all the snow they reported. Sunday was the best snow I skied all year.

that said I’m sure if it’s very warm the snow will go bad pretty quick, so you mighta been skiing that?

Loveland got over 30 inches in the same period and I watched the time lapses and saw the footy from the boys. I’m sure A Basin got what they reported, they’re pretty damn truthful with snowfall reporting.

the problem is that A Basin, especially this time of year as other epic pass areas start to wind down, has a shit ton of skiers. Don’t get me wrong, A Basin is such a great ski area and it isn’t even comparable to like Breckenridge, Keystone, or Vail, but it does get skied out fairly quick in the spring.

Plus, sun and warmth makes snow settle and turn to shit pretty fast.

not as many places are dishonest about snowfall amounts as people think.

loveland for example has the snowstake at mid mountain, in a treed/protected area that gets 0 wind loading. There’s a time lapse camera that shows real-time accumulation and is clears at 4pm ish daily.

I’m one of the people that physically records and dumps the stakes and I swear there’s no shenanigans involved, and I know the A Basin guys and can confidently say they are honest as well.

There are areas in the region that have reputations for things like placing their stakes in wind loaded locations and things like that, but I can’t say whether that’s true or not.

i think part of the reason people think areas lie is that people underestimate the effect wind has on terrain.

A Basin, Loveland, Breck have a lot of high alpine/ > tree line terrain and being located on the continental divide means that when winds are in the 30-50 mph range steady with even higher gusts, depending on the direction, the wind can either totally scour terrain or significantly load the shit out of it.

thats why sometimes 4” skis like 12” and sometimes the opposite is true.

maybe you personally understand that, but many people don’t and it leads them to say stuff like “bullshit, they didn’t get that much snow...”
