It's probably already too late in the season to find an apartment, so I would advice to just look for some last minutes hotel booking online.

But you've mentioned road tripping, so you got a campervan? If so you could also go to one of the camping facilities which will normally be cheaper then renting a hotel. (I've got no idea about any price for their campings thought)

we got a deal with flights etc when we went so cant really help. really cool place though. thanks to Neapolitan its tax free so get ready for a lot of cheap booze and sunglasses!! the town i quite long and spread out with like 4 smaller villages/areas if i remember correctly all link by a free bus. maybe look at some of the more 'remote' parts. all in all its relatively cheap by European standards so you should find somewhere reasonable. also with the lift pass i think you get a discount pass at st moritz (its one of the most glitzy and affluent resort in europe) might be worth swing by if your on a roady and tick off another country
