To Wax now or later (new skis)

Just got last year edition of new 163cm ARV96 few days ago, the skiing season is pretty much over around here til next next fall.

Should I wait on waxing the bases til after I ski on ARV96 2-3x next fall or go ahead wax em up like a month before next winter season while I have them mounted same time at the shop? They're previous year models in shrinkwrap, so I'm assuming factory wax on bases have already been mostly dried up? Thanks!

Psst- love the slogan on ARV96 graphics- "Ive got some shatter but I'm still da fire".

Thats quite informative reply you gave me. The bases feels dried up which is why I asked if new skis of previous year model needs to be waxed before use after sitting for 1+ yr in shrinkwrap on top of regional temperature differences affecting the performance of factory wax.

Just do a base wax for the off season and call it good. dont scrap it either

First wax before you get them mounted. Saves messing with the brakes and you get to mess with your skis more right when you get them.

It's always a good idea to throw on a "storage coat" of wax for the summer. This will ensure they don't dry out and it will help keep them protected better than the shrink wrap. After you get them mounted up, scrape off & brush, and you'll be good to go until your next wax.

any recommendation on wipe-on or simple methods of using storage wax? Decent one to keep it protected thru the summer til I take them to shop as I dont have the tools to work on bases- sold them along with my previous skis years ago when my knee & hip blew.

Im already looking forward on getting back into skiing scene next season, cant wait. Thanks again

Get an Iron and some all temp wax. You can store everything that you need to wax your skis in a little shoe box so it's really no big deal to store what you need and it's cheap to get what you need. To start out all you need is an Iron and some all temp wax. You can even use a used clothes iron from the thrift store. Find yourself a piece of plexi glass between now and next season so you can scrape once the season starts (if you are nice someone will probably just give you one or you can get a piece cut at the hardware store). Ideally you will also get a good brush. I'd save up and buy a brush before the season. Super easy.

Well, for storage wax, you want to put a thick layer of wax on to prevent the dry out and add the layer of base protection. A simple rub-on isn't going to cut it.

If you take them to a shop and have them run over the hot wax wheel, it would cost you maybe $5.

another thing on the storage wax in conjuction with what everyone else is saying.

For storage, I usually put on a shitload like 2 or 3 times normal amounts and make sure it extends all the way over the edges, it will keep potential rust off the edges as well. everyone already said it, but don't scrape until your gonna ride again, and an alltemp is fine for storage. Also already said but repeating for emphasis, you cant overwax a ski.
