So I just got a screaming deal on a brand new pair (2019 model) of Lange RX 100 boots from a local store for $250. I'm now wondering though if the flex is going to be too low for me... I'm between 5'10"-11" and weigh 190-195lbs. I'm a solid intermediate skier and ski probably just shy of being "aggressive". I live in the PNW and mostly ski in the Tahoe area. I mostly ski blacks and blues and try to find powder where/when I can, but do ski groomers on occasion. What do you guys think? Is the 100 flex good? Or do I really need to go for a stiffer boot? Thanks!
The boot has no idea how good of a skier you are or where you ski on the mountain. It only knows the physical forces acting upon it, such as your weight, your strength, etc.
If you flex the boot and the lower shell is excessively bellowing out, then the boot is too soft for you. A little deformation is good, but too much means it's not supportive enough for you and you'll have to work more for each turn you make.
I had the 2017 Lange RX 100 when I was an advanced but not expert skier and I weighed 175. I came to feel it was not stiff enough as I tried to ski steep terrain. based off your weight I would say you could go for stiffer, especially if you're going to be progressing in aggressiveness.
Currently skiing the Lange RX120, and the 120 flex feels a bit softer than I expected, still stiff no doubt. Consistent flex, and I have never felt held back by their stiffness.
