1 ski quiver advice

What ski would act as a great 1 ski quiver for mainly a mixture of backcountry / freeriding in mostly powder, with good pivoting for trees and such, but also perform at least somewhat well on hard packed groomers? I am an advanced skier around 6 ft weighing around 200 lbs. I mainly ski in Val D'isere (France) or san carlos de bariloche (Argentina). I have not had too many pairs of skis in the past, but one pair I enjoyed were the Head A star. Looking for skis available in europe on oppose to US only skis. Any help would be appreciated.

Edit: I have been eyeing up the black crow atris, but one review mentioned that it feels like there is not a lot of ski in front of you when skiing aggressively. What are your thoughts on the atris, or any other black crow skis that fit the criteria above?

I think the main gripe some people have with the atris is it’s not a super hard charger at high speeds, but the atris isn’t really built for that. The Corvus is definitely a more aggressive ski, but it’s not as playful or good in powder like the atris. The anima is playful, aggressive, and good in powder, but you lose a little maneuverability with the wider underfoot so it won’t be much of a carver on the hard pack days.

I would wait for the 2019 atris, supposidely they are increasing the turn radius to help with the higher speed stability. The atris will probably be the better performing ski for 90% percent of the terrain you ride, so if you can only fit 1 ski in your quiver I’d do that.

I would wait for the 2019 atris, supposidely they are increasing the turn radius to help with the higher speed stability. The atris will probably be the better performing ski for 90% percent of the terrain you ride, so if you can only fit 1 ski in your quiver I’d do that.

Those changes: sidecut radius, flex, tail rocker were made for the 2018 ski just for clarification.

I have a pair of volkl 100eights for touring and everything else. They are very stable and like to go fast, but can turn in tight trees/chutes very well

So I guess right now i'm looking to choose between the kartel 108 and the black crow atris.
I see the 108's advertised at a freestyle ski a lot, but does it affect backcountry / free riding skiing at all?

I own a pair of 181 Kartels and used to own a pair of atris's. The kartel is a more damp ski for sure another thing with the kartels is I could trust the top end straight away whilst on the atris in felt like i needed more shovel in front of me

Would it feel better if they had different topsheets/graphics? You could just wait until the fall and cop a pair with the new graphic.

I'd recommend the K2 Catamaran and Moment Bibby for what you're looking for, I've heard that both are great in every condition. Considering what you're spending most of your time doing I think using such fat skis is fine, as both can reportedly rip on groomers as well. You might also want to go with the Candide 4.0 or even 5.0 as the Candide series of skis generally skis thinner than their actual width.

On the roof box review i saw that after 12 days there was a fair amount of damage done to the tip as seen here: https://gyazo.com/f5fb381ca7f0acc0daa800276433d8af
I need these skis to last a while and can't afford to have the core damaged due to the topsheet getting damaged too badly. Im going to look into the 4.0s and 5.0s more. Might look into the bibbys as well.
Edit: after a quick look at the Bibbys I noticed they have a significantly larger radius and are significantly thicker than the 3.0s and atris. How will this affect the groomer skiing? (once again, groomers are more of a miner part of my skiing, but I still want the skis to be able to handle themselves well enough to be fun on groomers.)

Dude dont get atris's the kartels are more stable, much more durable and a whole lot more fun.

Bibbys rip groomers as long as they aren't bulletproof ice. Stable and powerful but still very easy to shut them down.

edit: What about the bibby tours? I will be doing some touring, but will the lighter ski effect how it rides? (keep in mind i'm a heavier skier at around 200 lbs)

I think the bibby sounds like a better fit than the kartel based on how you described you'll use it, especially since you didn't even mention park skiing. Even though the Bibby is wider, for me it definitely charged groomers harder than the kartel 108 because of it's stiffer flex and camber profile. Kartel is for sure a fun ski though, so can't go wrong either way.

Also, wtf is wrong with you? Not only are you choosing skis by graphics, but you don't like the bibby graphics? The continuing story of jack and jill in the bibby graphics is probably the coolest thing in ski graphic history.

backland 109 is what im currently using a my do everything powder ski (based in tignes), they have a fairly small radius so turn really nice on piste (assuming it isnt bulletproof) they're medium stiff id say but i can still butter them and with them mounted a few cm forward of rec i can take them through the park pretty comfortably and spin all the val big jumps without feeling off balance. The slightly softer tips do get deflected and suffer a little in refrozen crud or wind blown stuff but i ski pretty aggressively and they've never bothered me too much i would definitely buy them again

I do want to start getting into some park stuff, but mostly jumps, and (hate me) I would prefer to get the bibby tour over the bibbys for the graphics, but seeing as i am a heavier skier will the lighter ski make much of a difference? Otherwise I will probably get to the kartels.
Edit: I might avoid the moment skis as I have seen some controversial comments on the quality and I don't want to risk breaking my skis. I will probably settle for the on3p kartel's and maybe look into some other (more europe based(or at least easily obtained in europe)) brands such as scott, atomic, rossignol and head.

Blister gear did a review comparing the bibby and bibby tour, so check that out. Or just give moment a call directly and talk to them. Any negative stuff I've seen about moment's quality seems to be older. The consensus nowadays seems to be that the quality is high. If you want the bibby but really can't stand the graphics, check out the Wildcat that they are releasing for next season. It is the exact same ski as the Bibby, just got a name change.

Where have you heard anything negative about moment's quality? I've seen way more threads about breaking on3ps lately than moment. If you want a European brand the black crows animal sounds very similar to the Bibby

Looking at some other skis, some ones that have come up are the blizzard rustlers 10s and 11s, the nordica enforcer 100 and 110, the line sir francis bacon, the k2 marksman (maybe mentioned above) also i think the atris is better for what i do over the anima.
Does anyone recommend any of the above skis for what i do?

I feel like that's a very dead and lifeless ski imo. It does hold a good edge, just doesn't do anything that makes me saw damn! Just my $.02

Throughout my research I have obviously encountered a number of skis that would be better, but they are all mainly based in the US, whilst the brands I can get in europe (france to be more specific) lean more towards brands like k2, black crow, salomon, atomic and head. Probably other brands as well, but it is more limited imo than in the US. Also out of all the reviews I have read both here and other sites I have not encountered anything bad or anything similar to what you have said. But I shall continue the search.

I fucking love my armada JJ zeros but the only time I don't think they handle well is in slush. Just spent a week in Val Thorens and felt they handled progressively worse at lower altitudes. Using them as a primarily backcountry/touring ski, I use 2016 B dogs (the ones that are basically a JJ 94) and they handle everything else fine and 2018 Head caddys for going fast and about half of my park only days but that's most likely not the ski for you based on your description.

Dude the skis you are throwing around are so different from each other. If you really are that unsure about what you want that you can't even narrow down the category you may as well just pick the one with the graphic you like the best. That seems to be the only thing consistent in your thinking.

I’m gonna come in here and suck the K108s dick and recommend it so highly.
Had a pair since the start of the season and they’ve been on two trips to the Alps (December and March) and one trip to Whistler (January).
I love them so much. They are rock solid on everything I’ve skied them on but so much fun and super playful when you want them to be, but not soft as such. I’ve had them cranked right over in groomers and had them make me feel like I’m on train tracks (I believe this is thanks to the elliptical sidecut) they’re grip it and rip it on groomers unlike anything I’ve skied of that size.
I’ve never been so happy with the way I’ve skied tree in my life, the rocker means they pivot so quickly and you can slash them around in the trees and I’ve been shredding trees faster than usual and I think they’ve boosted my confidence there.
They’ll bust through any crud that comes your way and when you get a pow day, I’ve had a few turns of waist deep stuff on em, they’re floaty and surfy as all hell.
If I hadn’t just upgraded my park set up/didn’t ski park I wouldn’t see the need for another pair of skis, and if you wanted to rip park in them you could bang them at -2 and they’d do all the above but be so fun in the park as the swing weight is nothing compared to the size of the ski.
I’m also waiting until I can afford daymakers so I can turn them into a touring ski as well.
Mine set are 186s (I’m about 6’1 and 165 lbs) mounted at recommended with pivot 18s just for reference.
I can tell you they rock and I wish I was getting paid to say this. Also get a purple topsheet, always get the purple top sheet.

Probably right dude. Few drinks in and I got a little triggered. Actually ended up with them for brake width and stock issues in England. Needed to get em mounted for a trip. But fair. You can be a light guy and still want to rock a high end binding? I ski pivot 18's whenever possible and I weight between 150 and 160.
