Skiing Under the Chairlift

Thoughts? Opinions?

I fucking love it. Sure it's super embarrassing if you yardsale, but from my perspective it makes me want to send it even more knowing people are watching. There's nothing better than dropping a sick line or stomping a cliff in view of the chairlift for all to see. Even falling under the lift is hilarious sometimes. Maybe it's self righteous, but it's awesome imo. I sure enjoy watching someone slay the mountain while I'm riding up.

My brother on the other hand is a huge pussy and hates skiing under the chairlift for fear of falling in front of people.

I agree. As much as I don't like to admit it, I definitely ski better and harder when I know people are watching.

It's fun sometimes. But I know some douchebags who simply can't ski unless someone is watching them. Less people solo shred and just appreciate the soul of the sport now. Society has a big ego.

theres been many times when whats made me progress and take on harder shit as a skier is the "send it pussy!!!!" coming from the chairlift if I stand on top of a drop or something. I don't like it when people heckle by just dissing or insulting people, but a good old push in the right direction is always appreciated

So true. My favorite was when I was getting ready to drop a decent sized cliff in a closed area that was under the lift. Ski patrol was on the chair above and was cheering me on. Good vibes all around.

I totally fucked myself up today under a lift at keystone today and every chair was packed. I was laying on the ground and looked up and there was a lift full of guys staring at me and all I could think of saying was "that hurt a little" and a bunch of chairs of ppl started laughing. good times, I thought id share

I still dig it on steeps and groomers. I don't care in the park, but I don't throw down much anymore. I'd sometimes rather ride away from the lift for park these days.

Personally, I'm a bit paranoid skiing directly under ever since some girls on the chair in front of mine dropped their poles simultaneously as a guy skied under their chair, luckily they missed him by a few inches. But yea, I like skiing near the lift

Other perspective - if I’m on the chairlift, I’ll fucking hype anything. You could be doing the smallest jump, easiest trick etc I’ll be hyping the shit out of it.

Makes people feel good and isn’t that the point of skiing??? Get around it

Gotta love stoke and coyote noises from the lift if your sendin er, and the hootin and hollerin is what comes with it if you eat it. Im not one to ski a line under the lift just because its under the lift, but if theres some good terrain under there the fact that its under the lift probably makes me go a lil harder.

Shooting Star lift at stratton? those few drops under it are nice. its actually an open woods trail and they even fence off the run out of it now.

Yard-saled in Austria earlier this year under a chairlift. Although it was kinda embarrassing when my friends laughed the shit outta them but those few strangers cheering from above me are the real MVPs. Such an awesome feeling still.

If you're skiing under the lift and have any type of steeze, Imma hype you up like no other. It always feels good for both the lift rider and the skier. A little yew or yeet is a go to. Keep skiing under this lift kids, and I'll keep hyping you up.

You always have to ski under the lift as Gnar says If you're out there getting rad and there's no one to see it, are you actually getting rad? Also, how is everyone going to know that you are the best skier on the mountain if you don't throw down under the lift?

We had the same policy but when a crew of lifties hucked themselves off a cliff under the line first thing in uniform the guests were into that

At Schweitzer we got a pretty nice line under the chair that most the rippers are on when its a pow day and you can get to the line after most runs, and me and some friends rally the fuck out of it only for the purpose of doing massive cossacks and getting some cheers from the bros on the chair. makes my day when some crusty dudes start cheering.

I love it... I think skiing under the chair pushes you just enough and makes you a better more confident skiier. Not only because people holler at you sometimes, but I see myself really ripping it up and stepping my game up when going under the chair.

Just my experience, why would I lie. When im having a bad day and can't put some shit down, having people cheering annoys me. Doesn't mean it has to annoy you.

At my home resort (Mount St Louis in Ontario) we have a doooooope rail line and a mega jump line running right under the lift (which is a designated park chair) and it has the sickest vibe. Everyone knows everyone, stoke levels are always way up, people are tossin "yeeeeeewp!"s and other chants of stoke from the lift and at the lift, and there are speakers on the lift towers pumpin prime tunes. Always a good time.

Landed my first ever 3 right under wildcat at Alta. Crashed like four times right under the lift before I got it, but when I finally landed it some dudes on the lift were extra stoked. I personally like it just because landing a trick or hucking something and getting somebody else stoked is a super good feeling, and even crashing can still be entertaining if you just laugh it off.

at my home mountain there is a lift that goes up a double black, and on a good day theres no better feeling than just sit tucking down and watching everyone turn in their seats to watch you.
