What are your views on fabricateing clips for edits?

-DanI fabricated a clip in my last edit. Gaeta fell over shortly after i cut the second to last clip, this lip slide to switch on the dfdfd. def didnt ride it out. I'd say stuff like that happens more than people care to notice. another one in this edit too actually, rorys wall ride to 2 on the down tube was not landed. he was out of view for the fall so i used it anyway.

ataythosSo what do you guys think? If you do not already know a fabrication is when you tamper with clips on an editing software to make it look like you landed it when you fell. So basically cutting the clip before you fall.... You could also mirror your left spins to make it look like you can do good right spins. So what do you guys think. I believe this is a topic that deserves to be talked about and has remained not talked about for a while. I personally believe that fraudulent behavior such as this is unacceptable and I have zero tolerance for it.

Z-JuiceYeah mirroring tricks is super weak. I hope it rarely happens, particularly among top-level skiers.

SofaKingSickyeah i don't think it happens very much at all at a high level. that's more of a middle school thing to try to pull haha, people will call that shit right out nowadays

i mean, hell, if you even cut a landing i think most viewers will assume it wasn't stomped, e.g. tanner's trip backy in his last movie IIRC

eheathLiterally no one does it... some kid mirrored these shots of Karl on chads last year, but it was insanely obvious.

It's definitely flipped, not sure why, it didn't really add to the trick (unnatural i guess but were talking about a pro skier) and its not like they had two features, two tricks that were the same direction and mirrored one to make it appear he was doing a more difficult trick. I would consider what they did to be a "film making" move vs a "trying to appear more difficult".

that's interesting though! especially since sean jordan of all people is dirt nasty at sliding both ways haha. i do agree with you that that example is probably more of a film making move vs a skiing tech move. however i still think it should be frowned upon (and prosecuted in the supreme court of ski movies)

A_HarringtonReferring to the actual trick not the boot filler. This was just an example that came to mind when you said nobody flips clips, because I've been to this spot and noticed they flipped it. Hitting rails unnatural is intrinsically more difficult even for people who get paid to ski. I highly doubt they were trying to make the clip seem more difficult. I think you are right that an extremely misguided "filmaker" thought it would be more cinematic. But still a very out of touch and wack move.
