so i was thinking about the debt...

So I was thinking about the billions and billions of dollars, maybe even trillions(im not too sure on the number) of dollars in debt the U.S. is. And so i started thinking and i came up with this idea to help get rid of it.
1) Reduce the drinking age to 18. Its estimated that about 75% of 18-20 years olds drink. Now if you think of the millions of 18-20 years there are in the U.S. those are all potential and probably alcohol customers. If this happened, the alcohol sales in the country would probably double, which means A LOT more tax $ for the gov. Also, the huge spike in sales would call for new infastructures to be built to produce more alcohol for the raising demand. These new infastructures need people to run them. This means more jobs!
2) Legalize marijuana. Its a natural fucking plant for god sake! The president himself has smoked it before. If marijuana was legalized it would be the fastest billion $ cash crop ever. And once again, think of the millions of stoners in the country that would be potential and probable consumers. If marijuana was legalized and taxed it was bring in rediculous sums of money for the gov. and like the first part of my idea, it would call for completely new infastructures to produce and package the weed. Which once again creates more jobs.
So, my idea would reduce the unemployment rate, reduce the debt, and make the stoners and teenage alcoholics of the world a lot happier.

that would not even put a dent into that massive debt of yours. it would probably cause more unemployment and such, and hurt your economy.

how the hell would that cause unemployment? but the government would never be able to regulate marijuana. too easy to grow. they can't regulate while it's illegal, they wouldnt be able to when it's legal.

why don't we make the drinking age 8! Then we can capitalize on all of the elemntary school kids too! Fuck it, no drinking age, even more money! And we should legalize heroine and coke too, they are made from natural things right? As long as its natural.

your ideas just suck, the consequences would be opposite to what you wrote. the unemployment would grow, cause these mothefuckers that are alcoholics would be too lazy to work. marijuana and alcohol would increase unemployment in other areas.

Why would unemployment rise? I mean honestly think about it douche bags... how many kids do you know 18-20 that dont drink or smoke pot simply because its illegal. Kids are doing it anyways regardless of if its illegal or not. The fact that marijauna is illegal rarely stops people from doing it, same thing with heroin. How many people do you know that want to do heroin but wont because its illegal?? NONE! because heroin is a fucked up drug, the fact that its illegal isnt stopping any. You all are morons and need to think outside the box a littl emore.

i agree with you with the drinking age. im saying that legalizing weed wouldnt give the government much money, cause everyone would just grow it themselves.

Again I dont think lowering the drinknig age would help. Because as I said before kids 18-20 are already drinking if they want to....they just have to get other people to buy it for them which isnt hard. The fact the drinknig age is 21 isnt stopping any kids from drinking. if you want to drink and put money into the economy you will either way.

legalizing weed would put dealers out of business, causing them to get a normal job. thus lowering unemployment.

kids drink anyways, but if the age is lowered, than it makes alcohol a lot more accessable to them. which would mean they could buy it whenever they want instead of trying to pull hey mr.'s or whatever else they try and do that doesnt always work. I know for myself atleast that if the drinking age was lowered, id be buying a lot more alcohol

being a drug dealer doesnt count as employment. so if they had to get a real job then it would be 1 more job in the economy with out losing one.

legalizing weed would lead to more weed smokers. no denying that. and the number of burnouts would rise proportionally.

Maybe it would help the economy but I really dont think making alcohol more readily accessible to kids is that great for society. what about paying for rehab for all these kids? Or paying more cops to patrol the streets due to increased DUI's? It just wont work man...youre idea sucks to be honest.

but once again, if you needed to hire more cops to watch out for DUI's then ONCE AGAIN, thats more jobs.

Yes more jobs but someone has to pay those cops....money doesnt come from nowhere. Who is going to pay those for those cops? Probably the government...increasing debt....Christ youre a moron.

well, there is the argument of other countries that have low drinking ages. Some that are 16.

keep in mind that the U.S. has the highest drinking age in the world. I think the only other place that has a drinking age over 18 is British Columbia, and theres is 19. so we're still 2 years higher than the second highest.

d spins right. if it was legal the 18-20 year olds would go to the liquor store. because it;s illegal, they just have someone else go to the store. shits still being bought by their money and it's being taxed. and the bit you said about DUI's, im afraid to say that that is stupid because more importantly than the number of cops looking for DUIs would go up, but the number of dead drunk drivers and little girls playing innocently ion their yard and getting hit by drunk drivers would go up.

Here's your main problem, it's been done in other countries and doesn't work. Take Jamaica for example, they smoke weed all the time. They also have 25% of the population making less than 2$ a day, an average income of 3500$ which is skewed lower by the 18% unemployment rate and that 15% only work part-time, likely because the other part of the time they are stoned off their asses. This despite a kick ass tourism industry to make jobs. Anyways, in theory, your idea could work if it weren’t for the unfortunate side-effects of drugs and alcohol.
