Hey NS, thinking about going to Hood this summer, what are some pro tips?
Where should I camp?
Public park or windells?
Should I expect my skis to get beat up?
When should I go, thinking about staying for a week?
Is it hyped up?

if you're camping..

pick up your shit, theres not an excuse not to take out what you bring in.

earlier in the summer will be better snow

if you ski on rocks your skis will take a beating.

if you're on a budget public park will be a lot cheaper than paying for a windells session

june would be a good month to go i think.

1) Literally anywhere but the airstrip
2) Pub park army
3) Yes, bring two pairs and extra bindings.
4) MAY PASS, go for more than a week though, I would say 3 weeks is minimum.
5) It's hype, don't keep a plan, roll with what happens around you and you'll have a great time!

Pro Tips: Mount Hood RV Park for a shower, go to Thriftway in Welches for beer/ groceries. Everywhere else is overpriced.
East Side: (Towards Hood River) less rain, more sun, but not much going on. Killer skate park for rain days in Hood River.
West Side: (Welches, Rhodedendron, Govy Camp) lots of rain, lots of gypsies, more going on.

Early June can be rainy keep that in mind
July the weather is great but there will be less snow
Public park is always sick
You can poach Windells for a couple laps if you roll through lowkey
Clean up your stuff when you camp
Yes it is very hype

I can’t find the summer pass for sale on the timberline site, do you have to buy the 365 pass before December of the previous year or is there still the option of buying the summer pass? I’ll just have to get Day tix if not I guess

Yeah, I only see the $139 may pass, I dont see the summer pass either.

you can still buy the summer pass when it gets closer to the actual summer season, the past few seasons its been $899 but due to the bump in spring pass pricing maybe they'll bump the summer pass too

For camping just find a place in the woods to set up. It’s totally legal to camp on FS land for up to 14 days before having to move. If you’re low key you won’t get bothered whatsoever. Dont pay for a site and don’t camp where signs say no camping. You can also sleep in your car in the Tline parking lot which can be a good way to go.

If you’re only gonna go for a week then then your choices are to go in may and get the spring pass for $140. Or go in the summer for ~65/day. The summer pass is nearly $1000, so you will not pay that off in a week of skiing just buy daily lift tickets. I would suggest going in the spring. It’s way cheaper and the Conway’s/paintbrush parks Are MILES better than the public park in the summer. As for windells, if you don’t pay for a camp session you probably won’t get in. It’s possible you could but I wouldn’t bank on it.

Your skis won’t get that wrecked, it’s not that bad until later in the summer.

Why do you say this? The airstrip was the place that I used to camp at. I would only make weekend trips so forgoing a shower wasn't a big deal and we would just make a makeshift outhouse.

OP I have never hit a rock at Tline. Just stay withing park boundries and ur golden. Going earlier in the year is your best bet. You want to get their before the close down the lower part of the mountain. Although, when they move the park up the mountain its still a really good set-up. Just longer lines typically

1. I'm not sharing my spot sorry guy theyre all too blown up already. (just dont be visible from the road...honestly just go road 39 and paradise trail just be prepared to get kicked out.

1. But more importantly, pick up your fucking shit. This isn't going to go on for much longer if kids treat the forest and mountain like a landfill

If you wanna save cash what I always do is head up to the lodge at like 11 when the squids and racers are coming down and cop a day pass off them. They'll usually budge for around 20$ so you save a bunch of money. You can usually camp anywhere but don't expect to have a fire wherever you go.
