It might not all have physically happened but the teachings of Jesus are true when you look at them the way they are meant to be looked at, not in the "muh Bible" mainstream way its been made to be.

Yeah except everyone says this about their own point of view, hence 2000 years of religious wars about it.

i just don't understand why christianity gets hated on when it's all the relgions that have caused war. People are just more familiar with it in our culture because we're a western culture thus its the most predominant. There are religions in every corner of the world that have caused pain and suffering.
OP looks dumb to hate on a single religion... just shows how narrow minded he is
DirtYStylESo you are telling me that I can do anything and go to heaven? Just as long as I repent for my sins? brb going on a rampage
Yeah, it's one of those things that makes little sense to me. On the one hand it's a solid idea of forgiveness and being able to change. Even if you've been a shitty person, own up to your actions, and change.
The idea that god would let the most fucked up person that did all kinds of crazy bullshit, and only excepted him with his last breathe into heaven, but tell someone that wasn't religious but spent their whole life helping other people "I knew knew you" as send them to hell for all eternity?
That seems super legit. Burn the lady that has a soup kitchen the same as some fucked up murdering psycho, and if the person says "yo Jc we cool?" right before they die they're good to go?
Do whatever the hell you want in life and just pray you have enough time to repent and get saved before you die.
Also not even sure why I put a real post in this thread lol.
What's hilarious is that everyone in this thread knows a lot about the basics of Christianity, and likes to go with the whole irrational argument that because "it sounds magical it's probably a lie," and yet probably wouldn't be able to dispute the fact that Jesus did in fact die on the cross, and that tons of people witnessed him alive after he was crucified. It's fun to pretend like you have an IQ of about 13, but making an actual argument would be a loootttt more fun
milk_mantons of people witnessed him alive after he was crucified.
Tons of people have also seen Elvis since his death. The same can be said of Biggie. There are dozens of bigfoot sightings EVERY DAY. Criss Angel's illusions are better than Jesus'.
However, the whole virgin mother thing...you got me there. No one has been able to repeat that. Of course, if Mary was simply a two-timing liar then this whole thing goes out the window. My money is on Mary not being as chaste as she said.

I don't think you get it.... You don't have to "prove" the virgin birth to prove that Christianity isn't a hoax. All you have to prove is that 1. he died on the cross. and 2. He rose again. That's it. But you can't simply dismiss numerous written accounts by saying "Ohh well people write down lies all the time." Come on, be just a bit more sophisticated than that please..
you dummies are way too focused on the analytics and you're disregarding the bigger picture. Jesus wanted to make the world a better place, much like Ghandi, Mohamed, the Buddha, ETC... you all look stupid when you interpret religions that are thousands of years old literally... but i guess this is NS and most people on here are pretty stupid

I mean I've spent a ton of time in churches amd they interpret that shit pretty literally. At least when it suits them.

Well the Christians foisted the Jews on to the Muslims after World War II and created the shitstorm we find ourselves in today.

But what is the actually proof? The reason written stuff isn't taken for fact is because anyone can write stuff.
I could write a really detailed story about how I can travel at the speed of light but that's all bullshit without proof.

Written stuff isn't taken as fact? Then I'm assuming you also don't believe that the siege of Jerusalem by Titus (which Jesus actually prophesied) may have never happened either? The written documents that we're discussing have been authenticated (just like any historical document) by comparing and contrasting different accounts found on the copies that have been recovered. The more copies you have, the better you can cross reference and figure out the historical accuracy of the event. There have been 5,843 Greek New Testament manuscripts that have been recovered. If you can name historical works from the same timeframe that have more copies in existence, and as close to the actual event (30 years), let me know and we can compare the acceptance of each event. Because no other historical document from this time period comes close. So to completely discount the enormous amount of literature on this event is very..um....telling.

I'm not gonna get in a huge debate about this man. I've been in plenty before and it gets kinds tiring.
I've never said I was against anything written. I definetly could have worded that better. I just think that things should be proven empirically and experimentally.
A lot of it comes down to this group said this, or wrote that. Cross referencing works is great, but it gets difficult because while parts may be true, I'd have a hard time believing that any of those works are fact in their entirety.
Then it comes down to whether or not you trust it even if a large group wrote about it. It's not an exclusive issue. The same thing happens with science.
The Chinese were a tremendously advanced ancient society. There is a long Chinese history, and all of it includes dragons. Using your logic, dragons are real.

And you have a valid argument. But the idea that they just made all this up really doesn't make any sense. The disciples really didn't have anything to gain by believing and telling other people. And let's say the account of the empty tomb was made up--if their goal was to trick people into believing it why would they admit that only a group of women were the ones who discovered the empty tomb? The fact that it was women definitely was enough for probably a lot of Jews and others to not believe it
