Was going to pick up a pair of salomon mtn labs on the cheap but they sold, so now i'm back to the drawing board.

Have you tried on mtn labs? They don't have moldable shells (or at least that's what the bootfitter told me) so if you're not even gonna go to a bootfitter at least go to a big shop like a rei and try on a bunch of stuff.
