HG Skis Problem, Need Help Please

epoxy is your friend

i got this right under my foot on my old armada B-dog 2016. i managed to get some waterproof glue in there and clamp it down. but you have the binding on top. really i don't think that it will be that bad. i skied my bdogs like that from spring to early season (i ski a lot in the summer) and it didn't get much worse.

First off....this ^^^.

And yes you can and should fix it. Cracks are manageable if you keep water out. If you don't, water will destroy the skis fast. Also your edges are way way too sharp to be hitting rails with. Shape edges (especially on day one) vs metal rail are going to mess your edges up quickly.

C-clamp + two part epoxy (G-Flex) then proper detune and you should be good to go.

They do but I want to avoid sending em for warranty so early because getting them across the border is gonna cost me over 100$ in duties and taxes each way. Don’t wanna send em til I absolutely need to, especially not while the ski season is still in swing.

A park detune should fully alter and remove the square angle on the edge. You can see how square your edges still are. Even with the sharpness of that square removed, still not detuned properly.

Honestly - most shops don't do it right so not surprised, unfortunately.

I am sure HG will be able to give you some advice to get it fixed. Biggest thing here is you caught it fast - most people just go on and do nothing about it - but since you caught it, water damage in the ski is small and should be good once you repair it.

Called a warranty, but I think for the sake of discussing it, it is technically more of an at-cost crash replacement program.

Yes, you read that right. At HG Skis we’re focused on pushing the boundaries of skiing. How fair is it when other ski manufacturers void your warranty because of a day in the park? HG warrants this product to stand up to typical terrain park use for a period of 1 year from the original date of purchase at retail. Customers may use this warranty one time per initial purchase of a pair of skis. Customers who make an “impact” warranty claim are responsible for any and all shipping and handling or fees of any kind associated with a warranty claim.

Items will be repaired or replaced for a flat fee of $125 if, upon inspection by HG Skis and agreed upon by an HG Skis Representative, they are found to be under warranty.

That is ballpark cost per ski coming out of Utopie, so essentially they are selling you a replacement ski at cost. Given the margins at their pricing, its a good idea and cool they are offering it. I do think people should call it what it is, though. There is already a lot of confusion in skiing about what a warranty is.

This is, of course, just based upon the reading of their policy. It could be different in practice.

So should I fill in the tiny gap there currently is with epoxy or wait for it to grow a bit? And after glue is in just clamp and let er sit?

Update: Bought epoxy, skis are currently clamped down with the epoxy in the cracks between edge/sidewall. Gonna round my edges on the grinder after.

Do everything iggy said any you'll be straight. As we all know, edge cracks happen. Take care of the one you got and dull the rest of the edged majorly. Hope you had a fun day on them otherwise!! See you this weekend.

What epoxy did you buy? And yes you want to do this right away.

What you are fighting here is water. The freeze/thaw cycle of water in your ski is what destroys it quickly, so keeping water out is the most important goal here. Edges can be fucked up, but if water isn't getting in, they will hold together, at least for awhile.

Update: after multiple epoxy jobs and 8 days total skiing, the problem is getting really bad. Base and edge are starting to fully separate from the sidewall underfoot.

This happened very quickly to my bdogs last year like it did to yours. From basically the toepiece to the heel piece of the binding, the base has separated by like a whole cm from the edge. They’re my junker skis now. I wish I had advice for you. Epoxy didn’t help me either. Crazy how fast it’s happening to your hg’s though
