My friend got deported for trying to ski

Hello Newschoolers,

I'll admit I don't spend much time on NS. I snowboard and have been on skis like 3 times in my life. My friend Connor Gambles does ski. I met him years ago while I was riding in New Zealand. Him and his family took me in as their own when I was homeless there.

Connor tried to come to the United States to ski this winter. When he landed in the US he was interrogated for 15 hours and then sent home. The immigration official called me basically telling me Connor was a criminal because he thought that he was trying to work here without the right visa. I know that Connor had saved up for a while to ski here and wasn't trying to work.

I just want to help him out, cover some of his lost costs and try and get him back here. I made a GoFundMe for him. If this is not the correct place for this, I apologize. I just want to help out my friend any way that I can.

I appreciate the community you guys have and thank you for your time.

You don't need 3500, you need the correct visa. Ive lost great jobs in other countries because I couldnt secure a visa in time. I've also worked successfully in other countries and traveled to a few more.

It's shitty to find out that if you arent getting through, sometimes maybe theres a fuck up or you really thought you had the right visa. But usually paying attention and asking if needed, though a pain in the ass, isnt that hard.

What is he out though a plane ticket? On a bad day 1k usd RT?

What is the rest for?

I fucking hate go fund me. Also kind of shitty to make an account just to ask for money imo.

People have to take responsibility for themselves instead expecting everyone else to take care of them.

Also if he saved up enough to get to the states to live and ski for a while, why the fuck does he need 3500 from us?

Tell your friend it's useless to try to come back without the right visa as he risks being banned from entry for 5 to 10 years (US customs don't fuck around). He needs to go to the closest US embassy in NZ, ask for a B2 visa (but he will need to prove that he won't try to work there or stay in the US for more than 6 months, also he will have proof that he has something like a job waiting for him back home).
Once he has the B2 Visa, he can try to go back to the US, but even then there's still a risk of being sent back. It's like a game of russian roulette, and the customs agents have all the bullets.

US is strict but i doubt it was all on them. Especially when his friend is writing some sob story asking for 3500. 

Personally bummed that our visa policies get reflected in other countries. I get it though. Idk, i would never ask for 3500 for getting denied a visa, or expect people to pay for my life in general.

Oh absolutely. He must have said something that made them tick. There can't be too many reasons for them to lock you in a room and question you for 15 hours before sending you back, it's either you look like a terrorist, you look like a drug mule, you've been enjoying your 90 days as a tourist one too many times or you've said something incredible stupid during your interview by the customs agent... I'm sure the last one happens more often than we think "oh I have some money on my savings account to pay for my trip, but I'm sure I can find a bar job to pay for my lift pass"...
