It kind of sucks that this is how pow days work at resorts.

To me it just seems stressful. Gotta wake up real early then rush to ski your favorite runs before all of the pow is gone and everyone is in “attack” mode to do the same. This is why I like skiing park more these days.

Sheeple. While all these people waste their time, there's some dude way out in the boonies shredding a wide open bc line and the only concern is whether the snowpack is stable or not. I say we promote the hell out of resorts and get as many people to stay in bounds as possible.

This must be your first year at alta, its just as bad IMO the only cottonwood resort that isn't crowded is solitude...

What do you mean? Every resort I've ever skied at opens terrain as they do avalanche mitigation, hence "rope drop".

Because you work all day to progressively open more and more terrain when it snows...I don’t understand what you don’t understand.

You can’t do avalanche mitigation work when it’s pitch black or when it’s still snowing (as a general rule of thumb). You show up, start shooting before the chairs turn, and likely are still shooting at 10 am depending on the size of the mountain and number of slide paths. So, the mountain is open, people ski what’s controlled and open while patrol continues, and when patrol finishes a piece of terrain, they open it.

lol we get to sit in the same traffic and get to park on the same sides of the canyon road if you're not there by 6am. Alta and snowbird are the most gangbanged resorts by far.

Oh word, like 95% of the time, Jackson doesn't open anything until patrol is done with the entire mountain... Wasn't aware of how the silly Mormons and Colorado flatlanders take care of things.

Also brighton isn't crowded at all unless all you lap is crest on the weekends

Snowbird on weekends is the most heinous place to ski in Utah. The mineral basin/road to provo frenzies are definitely worse than any other cottonwood resort

Nate, it's Friday ;)

But yeah. Brighton's parking lot can be completely full and you can almost always ski straight back onto milly, even on pow days. Lines are hardly ever longer than a couple minutes, maybe up to 10 on the worst saturdays. And you can always find fresh snow days after a storm. Yeah traffic is getting worse, but even an hour and a half to get up the canyons on pow days is not bad compared to other regions. People like to complain.

I'm so happy I stopped skiing there. You're spending a grand just to wait in line at the base of the canyon, in the lift lines and for rope drops all for 2 untouched runs of powder before it gets skied out.... I wonder how many DPS and Super 7s are in that mob of dickbags.

That line is almost always roped off for whatever reason but I agree, not to mention it gets the lift line stoked when you drop in.

Some some vids from snowbird today, it was packed. Solitude on the other hand had untracked trails all morning.

Brighton is so fucking crowded my dude, I dunno if you've been over there this year. The new millennial pass really dicked the scene IMO that place is full of fucking people.


BUT all of these resorts are much more tolerable on the weekend than PC, alta/snowbird can be fine on the weekend if it doesnt snow.

Yeah I had bcc passes the last 3 years and switched to the bird for something new/more easily accessible steep terrain, and to this i say fuck snowbird. I don't regret getting my pass there but it's doubtful I'll come back. Everything is tracked so fast and the attitude of a lot of the people sucks. Even though it's also crowded, Alta is a lot better since you can traverse and sidestep to stuff.

So far I've learned snowbird is good for 3 things:
Laps of steep terrain when it's not crowded
Social skiing (I constantly run into people)
Spring days

Yesterday was unreal, no lines, super deep, got first tracks on a bunch of stuff. It was only cause the road was so awful though, I'm pretty sure Snowbird must have bribed the cops to keep the road open
