People hating on Magnus, is he bad or is his style just way different?
You might not like his style but the dude is good as fuck. I remember a slvsh game at Mt hood, I forgot against who, but he can hold his own on jumps, not just dancing around in rails. Dude can dub and go huge like most other pros. "bad" is definitely not a word to describe him what so ever.

Remember his Superunknown? He has a huge bag of respectable, standard, and techy tricks. And for a while he was going down the well trodden path of freeskiing - wearing tall tees, throwing dope sw 7s, lacing up pretzels, etc. He has just as much capability as any other big name park skier. So that throws the argument that he isn't talented out the window. In fact, his technical capability is what laid the groundwork for him to begin to extemporize a new style of skiing, which is what the progression of this sport is built upon. I have mad respect for Magnus - without guys like him, we'd have no progression. He is just doing his thing, being creative, and letting his soul shine through in his skiing. Why would you ever hate on that? Guys like him keep it fresh in a world of copy cats.

magnus clearly has fun, and can still send steezy big tricks haters gonna hate
right!!?? even if he isnt my personal favorite skier on earth (which i could never pick one tbh) he is my top 3 favorites to watch because you can just see how much fun hes having and the mad powerful energy he skis with. and lol, a line into some wild shit like a nollie misty 7??? you cant do that shit on demand if youre a "bad" skier

He's not bad, in fact he is talented as hell, but I do think he is one of the most overrated skiers out there. People nut over his style all the time, but call me an old fashioned east coast boy, I love my clean, raw, technical rails. Magnus just doesn't do it for me. Still elite, but overrated.
Check out some of his old vids with him wearing baggy clothes...he definitely can shred outside of the 'new wave' too, seems like hes more adopted that style now.
Tell me this wouldn't be top rated if it came out tomorrow. This is 4 years old Magnus too, I really don't get the people who say he's just an average skier. The hardest part of pushing any sport or culture in a new direction is figuring out what is possible and what isn't. Once Magnus or anyone in the Bunch creates something new, it gets hated on and people copy it. Even if its not that difficult, I think some of the Bunch stuff is pretty kooky, its at the very least innovative, and the grand majority of it is still very difficult.
He's the only "new wave" skier that has skill and hits features that have any risk. The rest are a bunch of copy-cat clowns that think almost falling over and dragging your face and both hands on the ground like a tripod is "progressive". At the end of the day it doesn't really matter though because forcefully tossing your hands to the side for no reason looks fucking dumb.

Agreed, Magnus has sent some burley shit and makes it looks super unique.
That being said, I'm a little over most of the new wave shit that is just silly, i dont think its him, but all the people copying him with non technical and non sendy tricks
When Magnus goes ham (ie real ski last year), it gets me as hyped as whenever henrik/keegan etc throw down because what he can do is insane.
That being said, when he’s just fooling around/watching the rest of the bunch doing their low risk shuffle shenanigans, it’s nowhere near as fun to watch as guys like torins b roll footage for example

I don't think you can deny LSM's edge control and ski ability. Maybe it's not super burly but it's tech as hell in its own way. Gotta respect the guy for pushing it but in a way that minimizes the risk for bodily harm.

I definitely don't think you can say he's bad, the man is talented. In the past he has proven he can throw down and even nowadays he decides to go really hard sometimes such as that slvsh game. I loved his old style, for example his segment in less where he's wearing supper baggy shit is one of my favorite segments ever.
-Danwearing certain clothes takes so much effort. he has to be trying very hard to wear those clothes compared to other clothes being worn. what?
I was speaking figuratively. Trying hard to stand out, be different. Compared to Jossi, who doesn't need to do that
Come on man, you must have known that's what I meant.
Anyone remember Magnus's segment in Less? Fucking brutal (in a good way), almost reminded me of a stept movie. Also he absolutely sent it in the slvsh match with swadburg.

I was going based of the screenshot you posted. If we are going with the general trying to be different then year I'd say Magnus tries to be different. I wouldn't consider being different to be a negative thing tho. Rather the opposite in most cases.

This. Magnus and LSM are the only newwave skiiers that can hang with the rest of the pros when it comes to riding ability. The rest of the newwave is a poor excuse to get Instagram likes.
Magnus is not my favorite to watch - his clothes and approach are just too much for me. With that said, there is no denying that the dude is a fucking shredder and can ski anyway he wants.
Park_RangerOne looks like a circus clown and the other looks like he is going to leave with your girl. Does that make sense?
yeah wow, you're right. Magnus should be lambasted for his outfit choice that day. come on yo, this shit is petty. people wear clothes that make them feel good. it hardly affects you
I think one big problem is when every kid starts copying his style around the park before learning actual tricks. Also, I feel like Magnus, LSM, and Peyben are the only skiers in the bunch that have legit talent outside of swerving around the park.
People hating/judging/critiquing (whatever else you want to call it) on what he's wearing are the real "try hards" Magnus just wears whatever the fuck he wants, doesn't give two shits if anyone likes it. I think if you've got a problem with that..

so to be clear you'd like to discredit Bmack, jens, toyben, saigon, erik, lee b, douglas and linus? have you seen far out, finito, and/or finess? like do we really just forget everything someone has accomplished because you didnt like their last 3 posts on instagram. Yes i'm a fan of the Bunch. But honestly, everyone in here who is choosing not to be is really missing out on a lot of great skiing. I'm not saying you have to like anything these guys choose to post on insta, but I would highly reccommend that you dont ignore their abilities and contributions because of it. https://vimeo.com/thebunch
bmack who allegedly doesnt have talent outside of swerving around in the park
Nickc88Fine, I retract the second part of my answer.
thank you. and regarding the first part- "copying before learning actual tricks." kids often emulate what they see. don't hate the skiers they emulate because of it. they have no control over that.
response in general:
seems like the next gen of skiers are on instagram and not NS. so they are seeing tophaloaf, mango, magnus, wabs, bmack and whoever else. guess what, they arent gonna see all that and think "woah that looks like so much fun but I better learn all 8 first before i try to nosebutter" So if you and whoever else want to be upset about it then either go gain a following on instagram for promoting traditional tricks to the youth or be quiet about it. or there is always NS where you can complain with everyone else about how there are no more edits on NS then when someone posts an edit you hate on it. this forum community this season has mostly been a self-fulfilling misery pit. If you find yourself agreeing with skierman at any point then ou need to deeply assess what is going on.

Guys, what if we all agreed to go like a month without debating New Wave v whatever? Seems like both sides of this argument are pretty well covered. /threads.

The people who hate on the new wave are the new generation of people who hated on the tall era. It comes down to kids copying their ski idols they've had the most exposure to before they really establish themselves as good skiers. I don't see that ever changing. Anyone who hates needs a big step back to realize they're hating on fresh blood trying to enter the activity we all love.
Would all you old fucks on NS hating on "new wave" be happier if kids just stopped skiing. Is that what your goal of these dumb ass threads is? Hating on skiers who are just tryna have a good time is probably whats best for the sport.

LOL except that "tall t" era was all about making difficult shit look as smooth and effortless as possible while the "new wave" shit is about swinging your arms around as much as possible for no reason whatsoever. Oh yeah and its an excuse to never progress or do anything impressive just as long as you play it off as "progressive"

There's been a trend of threads complaining about a lack of edits on NS while at the same time people are complaining about the "new wave." There are tons of good edits on zootspace. Honestly it seems like ski gabber/NS is becoming a forum for people trapped in a certain era of skiing. There are some OGs on here who saw the tall t era come and go who recognize that trends exist. If you've been watching ski videos for 15 + years, you know that the people who are inventing new tricks and interpreting the sport in different ways are the only ones worth watching.
Also skierman used to be funny what happened

i'm not sure that was a great edit to make your case. that was 3:00 of swerving, that just so happened to be outside the park. probably another :45 of useless partying b-roll. and, another :15 of skiing that showcased legitimate talent. watching that made me uncomfortable.
my opinion is that the OG era was way more steezy, but you really couldn't tell the difference of the skiers. all of them did the same, not enough creativity. nowdays i think there is more to look at and more free thought. not all the people wear 5 tall Tees stacken on top of eachother. they wear what ever they want.
