iFlipHonestly, I can understand why some folks are hating on him. I'm certainly not endorsing their expressed views, but Gus was very outspoken politically, using the Olympics as his platform. Many do not agree with these views, and many also do not believe it is appropriate to use an international sporting event to further one's personal political agenda.

papermacheReally?? If you voice a political opinion then its "understandable" that people wish a gruesome death and disease on you? What the fuck is wrong with you?
iFlipI should clarify that I'm not speaking about his gay rights agenda. I'm talking about his strong and very vocal anti-Trump stance, as well as his public slamming of Ivanka Trump. He also spoke out against Pence. This took away from his gay rights message, and caused many to disregard him.
As an aside, Tom Joyce, the author of the article Anti-Trump Athletes Are Struggling at the Olympics (https://www.lifezette.com/popzette/anti-trump-athletes-struggling-olympics/) clearly has a sense of humor. Regarding Gus, he wrote "Gus Kenworthy took a 12th-place finish in the slopestyle ski event and earned both a broken thumb and bruised rear end." Hilarious.
iFlipPlease re-read my posts. You seem to have missed where I stated that I understand people hating on him, but do not condone their expressed views. What I said - and I thought I said it clearly - is that I do not find it outrageous that people are giving him flack, but that I certainly do not agree with what these few people have stated.

RudyGarmischIf I’ve learned anything from my years on and as a troll, as a mod, and sometimes a trolling mod - don’t feed the trolls. Acknowledging them gives them a platform.

BASEDJAHthe olympics are super political already it's not like Gus is the one making them that way
sharhodesThe pure hatred and desire for the guy to be physically or mentally injured is uncalled for. However, I can understand why people don't appreciate his method. As a proponent and face of that movement you should be prepared to face the worst of the worse criticism, especially if you are doing so as highly visible professional athlete. Complaining publicly about the flack that you get for doing something you knew would be difficult doesn't sit well with me either. The guy's skiing and courage is undeniable, but his method for agenda pushing leaves room for improvement.

there will always be people losing their minds over even the most peaceful possible protest, e.g. the NFL kneeling. the entire point is that it shoves it into the discourse a little, but does it in a civil way. if that bothers you so much you can't handle it, i don't know what to tell you
Domski1856As stated above, I really don't think the olympics are an appropriate platform on which one should speak about his/her's sexual orientation. Nobody should be praised for being gay and the same goes for being straight. I'm not watching the olympics to see if some dude likes another dude, girl, or a fuckin refrigerator... Im watching it because I WANT TO SEE SOME SKIING!
theabortionatorSo why didn't you just watch the skiing. I didn't feel too political mid slope or pipe runs.
I heard amplitude at least 694 times as much as anyone said gay.
Domski1856I did just watch the skiing and all I'm saying is that the world would be a better place if people just stopped with the entire sexuality crusade. A person's sexual orientation is a very personal thing and should be kept as such.
theabortionatorOkay, this is where you're wrong. I don't believe your sexual orientation defines you but you shouldn't need to hide it. Whether I fuck girls or guys or both doesn't alter my personality or what sports I like, shitty music choices etc. I get that it's personal in that I would go up to a stranger and start talking about my sex life but it's say you're gay isn't the same as that.
If you're gay and nobody knows, you're probably not going to find another guy, you're probably going to have to keep dealing with girls hitting on you and not taking no for an answer. Finding an excuse for why you didn't sleep with that one girl, why you don't have a girlfriend. A bunch of other questions. It's not like being black or asian in that it's pretty fucking obvious. If you're black, 9/10 times you don't have to tell your friends that, they can probably figure it out.
Also all the gay jokes and homophobia. A lot of people don't even know that some of their friends are gay. It doesn't occur to them. Their best friend could be completely hopelessly gay, but if he hasn't seen lady gaga 15 times, and fabulous as fuck, they might be oblivious.
Saying that people shouldn't mention their sexual orientation, comes across as wanting gay people to be silent, to disappear. Personally I'm not big into the pride thing. I own 0 rainbow flags or tshirts. My sexuality is not even in the top 10 things I first bring up to people. Most times I only mention it if asked or it comes up, but it's good to be open with people.
Also there's the role model side of things. And representation in general. If you have a gay kid in some country hick town outside of stickville it might be pretty tough. Oh cool, there are a couple gay figure skaters, some guy that does ballet, etc. But holy fuck, a pro skier is gay? He hit's ramp jumps and does spiny twisties on grinbarz! That's so sick! If society gets your feelings of self worth down to pretty much 0, something like that can make a fucking HUGE difference. Also on the hater side of things. Lol thats gay. Fuck you you f*ggot etc. Plenty of people don't know any openly gay people. If there's that representation it makes a huge difference. Some friends of theirs, people in town, or better yet, a professional athlete?
I personally don't want an award for being gay, I don't want it to be an issue. I want to be at a point where it doesn't make headlines, where truly nobody gives a fuck. We aren't there yet, and the people pushing the "it shouldn't even be a thing" are the ones keeping it from getting to that point. If people stopped being cunts, we could get there faster but whatever.
Being gay isn't some weird personal issue, like some crazy fetish. It's pretty fucking normal. Being gay isn't just about sex either. People mention "what people do in the bedroom should be their own business", which I agree, but that isn't about what you do in the bedroom. That's like if you mentioned that there was a cute girl and I told you "ewww, keep the things you do in the bedroom to yourself". You just mentioned something about a girl. You didn't say anything about the things you were doing when you were fucking her the other day. It wasn't some wild overshare. It was just a simple observation that said girl was pretty. It's the same with being gay. I'm not talking to you about what I did in my bedroom, I'm not getting into any details. I'm simply saying that I'm gay, and it's 2018. If somebody thinks that's a fucked up overshare, or a terrible secret to make public that's their own problem.
Domski1856I did just watch the skiing and all I'm saying is that the world would be a better place if people just stopped with the entire sexuality crusade. A person's sexual orientation is a very personal thing and should be kept as such.
BASEDJAHplease tell me more about this "sexuality crusade."
Domski1856So the main problem here is self esteem then.
First off, it wouldn't make a difference if the guy is openly gay or not, girls would still keep hitting him up the same as guys would keep DMing a lesbian chick.
And secondly, for as long as I remember, I've maybe heard only a handful of homo jokes and most of the time, people telling them are immature idiots who aren't worth listening to anyways. So if some random dude or friend cracks a joke that happens to hit you in the feels, I'd say it's probably not the best idea to come out on social media for the world to see because if you haven't noticed, that's met with ALOT more harsh comments then the occasional joke. But shit, if you aren't phased by criticism and harsh comments, then why are you coming out on social media in the first place for keep living your life in peace?

Domski1856Sorry, a better word would be "trend". Idk, it seems like all of a sudden, people are just coming out right and left lol

PoikenzTo the people who are saying that Gus' actions or whatever are "annoying" clearly don't remember anything about the thrill he gets from competing
Domski1856Im NOT criticizing Gus or anybody for fucks sake. Can’t you guys see that I’m simply just stating my opinion and everybody is entitled to their own opinion. The thing is that I’ve heard people praising him for being a gay athlete and I don’t have a problem with him being gay nor do I have a problem with him being one of the most talented skiers in the world. However, I would prefer that people don’t mix the two. A sport is a sport and should be left as such. I’m not a homophobe and whatever people say or do is their own business. The best world would be the one where everyone, no matter what religion, sexuality, etc could just live in peace.
