THE GOOD OLE DAYS?

It could just be me but I feel like lately, I've been hearing a lot more about the "golden age of skiing" or the "good ole days" and I'm growing tired of it. People act, and a lot of the people who are now well out of college that also say, that things were "just bigger" or "it was more about style" and lastly "We were all rebels. None of you kids now can understand." And look I get it, times have changed as the recent "matrix" newschoolers video showcased there are some current dumb trends in skiing, but let's face it there is still so much awesome stylish skiing out there. However, I feel like people don't give those edits the same viewing as they would a "golden age" edit and that really gets on my nerves.

I am in no way bashing these older edits I'm merely saying we still get stuff from up and comers who are absolutely killing it but aren't getting the respect they deserve because peoples nostalgia blinds them from seeing past the "Good ole days". (Or should I say the Ghood ole days) I'm sorry if someone has already posted this but I couldn't help but notice an uptick in the amount of "good ole day" talk and just had to say something. Now that that's over guess I'll just prepare for the incoming waves of hate and backlash.....

yeah as someone who started watching skiing before the tall t era and saw it come and go, it's super overrated. Skiing was way more creative before and after the "golden age"

to me, the golden age of skiing is any year when there is significant snow. it doesn't matter about style if you are having fun. after all, thats what skiing is

there is no objective Golden Age, it is a subjective idea that people have opinions on that depends on their age/when they got into skiing as much as anything

ive been here since 1999. believe me, the shit i watched that got me into skiing has a special place in my heart that can't be touched by anything else. but the state of skiing is fucking awesome today, so many people doing unbelievably sick things in all different aspects of the sport

same with NS while we're at it. people who whine about some bygone Golden Age of NS are IMO just looking through rose colored glasses. it's almost always been the exact same, it's just evolved over the years. it was always a bunch of idiot skiers yapping at each other, half nonsense half good shit

I started skiing park during “The Golden Age”. I don’t get why it’s everyone has such a huge fetish for it. Every edit from that era looks the same.

Technically your average old school mogul skier is better than your average modern day park skier. However, the style of park skiers today is pretty awesome, I.e. Delorme, Antti, wallisch.

Also, ski ballet was gnarly as fuck, try some of those moves and see just how difficult it is.

People fail to live in the moment and will always let nostalgia overcome them. This happens with any sport. For example, people complaining that football is soft and not nearly what it used to be. It is softer now but we've never seen offenses this explosive before. I think everyone needs to stop taking what we have for granted and live in the present and enjoy it.

Isn't it obvious? Global warming has affected the snow. We now go slower and get less air time. Back in the good ole days they looked like a helicopter from how fast they were moving

Did you ever get kicked out of the snowboard park because you were on skis? Those were the rebel days...

Everyone has their own favourite era based on when they got into skiing/park/whatever. I started reading Freeze and Freeskier in the late 90's, but did get my first pair of twin-tips until 04', so that era (early to mid-00's) will likely be my favourite. It's also around the same time that the movie game was on fire (PBP and Level1 were on point, IDEA, TBC, etc) so... if you don't agree, you're wrong.
