KravtZAs someone who skied Stratton on the raceteam growing up, went through a park phase there (probably WELL before you were around it) when suntanner was amazing, us freeski open, etc....I can tell you that probably every single one of those racers on the SMS team is a WAY better skier than you. Most could probably throw a better park lap through their sub par park than you as well.
Curious what your beef with racers is. Where else would they race?

I was around for the power park and the bus and the us opens and when Stratton was actually sick. Obviously theyre better racers but that doesn’t make them better skiers. And have u ever seen a racer do anything in a park besides ride the side hits, take up space and stand around or better yet ride through it as if it were a groomer? I get they have to close off trails to race but why do they have to act like they fucking own the place just because they race for SMS. If you actually rode Stratton, you would know EXACTLY what Im talking about when it comes to racers. But then again it seems like you’re one of them
KravtZRode that place for 20 years every weekend before leaving the east coast every weekend and holiday im sure we've run into each other at some point as well. Many of the racers you wouldn't even recognize them in their other clothes. Agree I think its unfair to close down n american all the time especially on weekends but the revenue they bring to that place is insane. Stratton caters to that 1% crowd if you haven't noticed...they have zero interest in anyone else. Go check on the stratton mtn club, see how they deal wtih that sort of client...much much different than your everyday lift ticket buyers or people scraping buy to buy a season pass.

dan4060Correct, but I would say the same about park skiers, just because they are better park skiers does not mean they are better skiers. I would say racing translates better to big mountain than park skiing. Racing is probably the single best way to learn to properly manipulate a ski, although bump skiing is close. If you look at most of the guys who ski in AK for TGR and MSP the vast majority of them have racing backgrounds. If they don't, then they either usually skied bumps or grew up in the west.
I ski Mammoth, and I really could care less that they close off certain trails. Those are not runs I'm interested in skiing anyway. Sometimes they will close off Cornice for a downhill or super g, but I don't really care about that either. If they closed Hangman's or the Paranoids that would piss me off. Do you guys really care about the runs they close off? If you do I feel sorry for you, because that means your mountain really must not be all that great. I'm not trying to be a dick, but I skied Squaw everyday for 6 years and was NEVER bothered by the areas closed off for racing.
I see more attitude from park rats than racers, but I don't really interact with either group very much.

I've also gone up the lift with some of them, and the whole time they were making fun of people's techniques. Literally 8 year old's and their moms skiing on vacation.
I have no problem with ski racing, but a lot of ski racers are rich elitist teenagers.
GRaboneSnowMt Ruapehu is my home mountain, the racers and the park guys stay away from each other's turf for the most part because the Racers know the OG's will fuck them up. When I came to Whistler they are all little shits. I wish I had my home crew because they don't tolerate the kind of shit they do.
RousedWitsI would bet the reason that kid had 8 skis is because of FIS regulations for race skis... Not only does FIS regulate the turning radius, length and width of the skis that are allowwed in the race, but they also change it almost every year...
Its bullshit in my opinion, they exclude alot of people who cant afford to buy new 1000 dolllar skis every other year from getting serious in their sport.
