GRaboneSnowFrom the ladies slopestyle snowboard to the inconsistent judging. I don't reckon this Olympics has helped push our disciplines to the next level in the eyes of the general public. What do you think?
chicknfriedsteakAs if worldwide coverage of our sport would be somehow detrimental. Judging aside the Olympics have been pretty exciting, I'm certainly bummed about how it panned out for some of the riders, but fuck, when I got into skiing back in 2010 and started watching slopestyle in 2011-2012 all everybody was doing were dub cork 10s or 12s with the occasional switch dub rodeo thrown in. I never would have dreamed of seeing misties, bios, flatspins, rodeos, and corks all thrown down my the top competitors. Not to mention back to back tripples, crazy grab combos, and such innovative courses. With riders like Woodsy, ABM, Henrik, Jesper, and so many others, competitions are only getting more fun to watch and they are even forcing more traditional comp skiers to evolve and get more creative.
BrotherhoodFilmsi think in the end the judging doesnt impact much the perception of the main public as 99% of them didnt even watch the comp
+ in the news (in quebec at least) the reporting is pretty small and clueless. ABM won a medal and he had a 15sec airtime on TV baiscally only talking about his "story" and they showed nothing about the actual sport except sometimes a shot of his final jump.
My point is for sports like slopestyle, mainstream media doesnt care about showing the actual sport, all they care about is the personal story that everyone can relate to
