Should slopestyle even be in the olympics...?

the judging was wack
the announces were clueless
all of the skiers worked hard for this moment and threw down - only to have inconsistent scores

we should just bring freeskiing back to it's roots instead of having to deal with judges, announces and officials who can't quite wrap their head around what slopestyle is... in 2022 there needs to be a serious re-evaluation throughout FIS if slopestyle is to continue in the olympics

Who do you think judges every other event? Its all the same guys, there are more than 5, they rotate.

Slope is in the olympics for awhile at this point, the sport would have to completely die for them to drop it.

I'm fine with it being in the olympics, but did you look at the judging team? Two of em never even competed in slopestyle, that shit should disqualify them from judging in the first place. The scoring was wack and inconsistent. How Woodsy doesn't medal even is beyond me.

These judges are part of the team of judges that do all of the grand prix/world cup events every year. Every judge on that panel has loads of judging experience, you just decided to pay attention to who they were for once.

Also, IMO this is the second biggest content in skiing. I think Xgames is still the biggest title for a ski/snowboard slope/pipe skier.

Fair enough, but you can't sit there and tell me there was any good judging this final whether or not those guys have experience judging slope. They were scoring all over the place. How Braaten wins with 2 superfeds and a 2 continuing 2 and no triples is beyond me. Woodsy Teal Goepper Ferdinand all got fucked by judging in the final. How only 1 of those 4 got a medal is fuckin crazy.

Should it be in or out of the olympics? I don't think that's up to any of us to decide, or to care about. If you disagree with the way it's done it shouldn't matter and it really doesn't. No athlete is at the olympics against their will... I get that the judging and announcing was wack, but at the end of the day these athletes are competing on a whole world stage that is rarely provided for them.

The judging doesn't really bother me, and the commentating doesn't either. I don't really care who wins, and I don't need a guy to explain the event to me because I've seen it before. Imagine trying to watch biathalon or some shit with insiders only commenting and you have no idea what they are talking about. Or how the event even works because they assume you know the nuances of every athlete. That's not the point if the Olympics.

Idk. Olympics is hard to compare to xgames.
And it only happens twice a decade.
Id say if kenworthy won xgames but didnt make it in the olympics he wouldnt get nearly as big of a hardon from the media

Well I can tell you that athletes from the US and Canada feel great pride representing their countries, its very hard to make those teams, but basically every other country its a shoe in for their athletes. The olympics doesn't compile the best group of athletes for a competition and many athletes believe that as well and see the X Games as the top title of the sport.

everyones pist bc they only root for their favorite skiers, conveniently only show up to watch the olympics and ignore everything else this season. If you've been following all along, this podium was predictable, and skiers have been getting snubbed with 4/5th all season long. The competition is that good. You can't bobble on the rails, you just can't. And your jumps need to be world class. You fav skier isn't gonna win just because. Henrik didnt make finals which sucks, but thats just how it goes. The whole podium at olympics was deserving. These guys have been trading top 3 spots all season.

Im just gonna say one thing. One of the judges is from slovenia, so am i. And i can tell you that we have never had anyone that would be worth mentioning even in a redneck comp held in my backyard. The country only invests in racing and then gets no results, as if freeski wouldnt even exist. But thats a topic for another thread. So yeah as soon as i saw a slovenian judge i knew its gonna be fucked...

In Womens slopestyle they were scoring runs with 360 and 540 rotations in the high 70s into the high 80s it was a joke. Maggie laid down a very similar run that got her a 93 at Xgames that scored 71 at the olympics? She preceded to barely make the finals in the 12th spot which set her up horribly to compete for a medal. If she would have qualified higher she would have gone dub and had a chance to win at the end. She stomps the same run that got her a 71 in qualifiers and gets a 82? I was so confused I couldn't even wrap my head around the straight on straight off rail slides and 360s being thrown on the worlds largest stage and getting high scores it was embarrassing.

everythings slightly different with the women. I don't watch enough of it to really think about their runs. I never understood how maddie bowman won so much. But those 2 swiss girls who 1/2 were amazing definitely deserved it.

It definitely seems like some countries had to do some fishing to compile a team. Stoked for those guys to get a chance to compete on such a high level though. Not sure Corey would have had a chance to poach if not. And that was an olympic highlight for me.
