Got my new sticks waxed recently for my next ski, easter time from now.
Will my skis still be waxed and ready to use by then or will the bases be dry?
Also would it be worth it to get an iron etc if i ski only 3 weeks a year?

ZypherIf you only rip 3 weeks a year it may not be worth it to get your own setup. I usually only wax my sticks if i've ridden them 10 times fairly hard or if the conditions drastically changed, warranting for a warmer or colder wax. You could definitely get away with waxing at the beginning of the season, riding for your three weeks, and then just asking a shop to put some storage wax on them for the off season.
With that being said, getting your own setup can be cheap if you know how to look. An iron can be a simple clothing iron that you can get from goodwill for 5 bucks, wax is something you dont want to skimp out on but a nice hydro wax can be about 10 bucks a brick which isn't terrible, then comes the scraping equipment; scrapers can go from 5-10 dollars, a good brush is closer to 20 bucks, and a brillo pad is 1-3 dollars at any cleaning supply store. All in, you're looking at about 50 bucks for a setup that'll get the job done and put a smile on your face. If you use it sparingly a wax brick can last about 5-10 waxes and your scraper will get dull overtime, that's pretty much all the replacements you have to do for waxing skis. Scraper sharpeners are a beautiful thing but also just dumping your old one a getting a new one would suffice if you can find them cheap enough.
powpatrolSo you reckon it would be worth it to get the full wax kit?
ZypherI mean, if you're down to drop the money it doesn't hurt. In the long run, its cheaper than taking them too the shop. Also if your fam skis too, you can offer to wax their skis in exchange for a brick of wax or like 10 bucks, idk. I ran a fundraiser at school this season and made ~400 bucks from just waxing and tuning some skis and boards. If you really want to go all in, id recommend a better iron but a simple clothing one will get by too.
powpatrolYeah i’m the only one in my fam with skis right now. I’ll see if i can get the kit maybe.
But the wax will last till easter at least?
