New SpongeBob is shit

I grew up loving SpongeBob as a kid and still love it now. I'm talking about the older episodes of course because the new ones are trash. The new ones are pretty painful to watch. Anyone else feel this way?

Oh definitely dude, sponebob was originally written to be for an older audience and to air on adult swim. However, there was something about the show adult swim didn't like. So the writers re-wrote the series for a younger audience instead and nickelodeon accepted the show and aired it. That's why many of the older episodes have more clever and complex/adult humor. As the show developed to be nothing more than a kids show and new writers came in to the scene, the jokes became less complex, original, and the content became mainly just childish nonsense. Spongebob for sure has lost its clever humor from its earlier days in the late 90's and early 2000's. It's a god damn shame.

I haven't seen any really new episodes but seasons 7-9 were still pretty good

watched a bunch of it on acid a couple weeks ago and laughed so hard

What do you watch rick and morty?? Spongebob has stayed fairly the same... the only thing I don't like is how many different facial expressions they give spongebob now too weird for me

You definitely don't watch enough spongebob. The writing and joke structure is completely different and has been for the past 8 years at least. They got a entire new crew of writers and it's definitely noticeable dude

To be fair, you have to have a very high knowledge of comedy to understand the old Spongebob. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of complex humor most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer’s head. There’s also Spongebobs overly positive outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from early cartoons for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize that they’re not just funny- they say something deep about life. As a consequence people who dislike SpongeBob truly are idiots- of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the humor in SpongeBobs catchphrase “Aye captain,” which itself is a cryptic reference to Treasure Island. I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Stephen Hillenburg's genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them.
