Nah. Haven’t actually left the resort town.... barely seen anything. Went up the street today to see if there was anything before we head to work..
Nope. Just a ton of restaurants and convienince stores. Saw a dog, that was probably the highlight of the day, plus two kitties.
I think we’re goibg to try and head to the coast tomorrow? We’re doing aerials, which are night events, so some time to wander there.
Then a DMZ tour on our weather day before we leave
bread_birdThis would be awesome, but I don't think there has been a host with a suitable venue since Salt Lake. Even then, it would be difficult to standardize freeride to the degree that other events are.
Above all, I'm sure I would be severely disappointed with the judging, commentary, etc. based on what I've been seeing this year.

Hoping to watch the mens SL and GS. This kid that was running gates all morning while I was setting the park up in Africa the last couple years qualified. Only person from South Africa in the winter Olympics.
It'd be cool to see him race, regardless of how he does. Obviously a big dream for him.

Never watched aerials before, but damn, those ladies go. Men’s tonight should be big. I was chatting with one of the Canadian athletes while he was having a smoke during training Swahili all, telling him about how big they go. Told him I skied big mountain and never seen aerials. Buddy took a drag of his smoke, flicked it out, said “ya, this isn’t big mountain”, then lit up another smoke.

Crushing. She had the best rail run of the field. She locked in her grabs in the second run a lot better than run 1, and you’re right, had she not cased the last jump, I think she easily qualifies.

Shaun's third run was Fs dub 14, cab dub 14, fs 5, dub mctwist (more or less dub bs 12), fs dub 12.
Same tricks expect Hirano linked all four dubs in a row, Shaun broke up his dubs with the fs 5 he has been throwing for 15+ years. There are two arguments for Shaun to win that I will entertain, 1) he did a fs 5 instead of a bs air and 2) he may have a had a little, and i repeat little, bit more air than hirano. However Hirano combing all 4 dubs together bring the technical difficulty higher than Shaun who broke it up with the fs 5, all of Hirano's grabs were fucking perfect, grabbed the edge and held it into the ground, his rotations were flawless, and his landings were near perfect. On top of that Shauns double mctwist is horrendous, he grabs his toe, NO part of the edge, and the last 180 is whipped around so ugly. All of that combined gives Hirano a clear win over Shaun.... IMO.

You seemed pretty hostile. He did a run earlier with a 10, I mixed it up and I think I mentioned it in a comment to somebody else. And 3 or 4 days - a week same shit.
Jump does look pretty small for a big air. You could def get a triple on it. But doesn't look like you could even try a quad. Maybe if the men go super deep?
Interested what the deal is with that. People complained that slope was small, but I don't think so. You could float trips pretty easily, and everyone bitched about the jumps the last time.
I'm curious whats up with the big air though. It'll be easier to judge when the men hit it.

After the snowboard pipe, I gave feedback to him about how the show was received. Later that night, the local chicken pub was playing the last XGames pipe, and I mentioned that this is how people are familiar with a pipe show. He watched the whole show intently, as if he was taking notes on it.

It watched way better. That said i still like the lower angle from in the pipe or the bottom better.
They used a mix of all the angles on some of the runs that worked.

Everyone was bitching about slope and big air. Slope they were fucking crazy, big air I get it looked small from the pictures, and still isn't the biggest jump. But it seems to be working. The last 5 people just stomped the fuck out of triples.
I think I’m watching the death of big air right now. Jumps too small and everyone is balling up to get triples around. No air time for style at all. We have finally reached aerials level.
