.Hugo.This has to be the dumbest fucking question I've seen on this site. Some of you kids are completely delusional

TheHamburglarOh the irony
OP, maybe ski fewer than 6 days a week but definitely shred while you're still young, fuck that "skiing will always be there" mentality, do you really think you'll be a park rat when you're an overworked, exhausted doctor? Fuck that, shred now. Life is short.
theabortionatorBesides, with sites like Web MD and youtube tutorials, doctors are becoming obsolete.

theabortionatorSki, ski tomorrow, ski forever!
We don't need any more doctors telling people what they can and can't eat, that drugs are bad, or that they should exercise more often.
Besides, with sites like Web MD and youtube tutorials, doctors are becoming obsolete. Why would you spend all your $$$ at a doctor when you can diagnose it yourself in 5 min from home, watch a 10 in or less video on youtube on how to fix it, and then trade your roommate some beers to patch you up. All you need is an internet connection. What a time to be alive!
LonelyI switched majors to ski more. Being a doctor isn't the only well paying job out there. Their are a lot of other options that don't require you to throw a decade of your life away.
mmccarthy81What did you switch to?

nxtyrsfulltiltsIf I choose to pursue skiing over college my parents would disown me

SkiClubSeeing where you are now as a skier and judging what you have gained and lost making your choices in the past 10 months, do you think other skiers should try to do what you did if they feel they are in a similar position? Asking for a friend hahaha

DirtYStylEYou can tell your friend that he is banned from the OTTO fan club. Hes going pro for a few years and then getting his MD once hes too old to ski. Its what everyone is doing these days

-WZ-If skiing's important to you, you'll find a way to keep doing it regardless of how busy you get with school

theabortionatorI remember getting shit from my english teacher at the mountain night skiing. I was building/hiking a jump. "You didn't do your homework at you're out skiing?!?!?!?" Obviously he didn't get it.
15 years later, didn't go to college and have been building jumps for 16 seasons. Sure I get paid shit but I've worked in some sweet parks, worked in some random countries, and have no ragrets.
Imo there's a balance with school. Personally I felt shut down by at least half my teachers. I was smart enough but they would kill any motivation I had. I kind of said fuck it. That's probably not the best option for a lot of people. That said, the people like that kid who skipped ski trips with his family to get perfect attendance thinking it would matter went way to far the other way. School is important, but it's not necessarily everything. You kind of have to wing it in life and make decisions that will impact everything, years before you're really ready too. That said you can do pretty much anything. If you wanna be a scientist go for it, if you wanna live in a van down by the river in the base area, send errr. Yolo and shit. There's a million paths through life.
I do think, if you love skiing, it's worth being a dirtbag ski bum for a year at some point. Even if you're crushing college and going on to a solid job. It's worth it to do a season struggling to afford rent and food, and all that dranking you're probably going to do. HS is probably the best time to do it if you're that "I'm going to be a brain surgeon" type of person. You don't have to pay rent at your parents, get food, and you can just work on the weekends.
Personally I stayed with it, because there's something about building parks for the peoples that tickles my fancy, but even if I hadn't, I'd be stoked having dabbled for a few seasons.
Regardless of what you do, do it for you. Not any expectations from peers or family. Obviously that shit will still have an impact, but do whatever the hell makes you happy. Life is fucking short, click your poles together and send it.
a_pla5tic_bagIf you have to think about this you're probably not gonna make it in med school.
