Can a mountain confiscate your skis???

My friend got caught using another person's pass. They confiscated his skis until he pays the fine. Are they legally allowed to do this?

Generally they aren't allowed to touch your gear, but if you want they could charge you with theft of services instead.

no, they can't hold his skis hostage.

HOWEVER.

they could hit him with a ton of legal charges instead, ban him from their resort for life, etc. I would consider this a win for you friend considering what it could have been the other outcomes. pay the fine, get the skis back, mature from this, learn from this, and don't steal again!

The fine print on what ever season pass contract you signed would warn you of this.

I mean, they wouldn't really need to take your gear, they could just call the cops and ban you 4 lyfe.
