The replay was during normal hours, but the live stream was online live overnight.

I would have to wake up at 3:00 am if I wanted to watch the qualis. Slope final is luckily at like around 7 am for me

European here ... for us the schedule sucks haha. Korea is 8 hours ahead of us, so with finals starting at 13:00 (5 am CET) the timing can't get worse :D I'm stoked about the long training period for the skiers though. Expecting some crazy runs if the weather plays along.

Yup just checked the schedule. Every single comp im interested in watching are between 2am and 6am. Fuck me no sleep for the next week

The olympics is just a giant fucking cashgrab for it's shitstain corporate sponsors who couldn't give a rats rectum about the athletes or the sports... Basically takes all the niche aspects out of the whole thing. Also, the coverage is insufferable... either "OMG rags to riches" (as if any skier or ice skater or whatever is rags to riches haha we're all priveleged as fuck to do what we do) or it's "WOW THEY OVERCAME INJURIES" as if that matters as pretty much everyone here seems to have a blown ACL or 5.

the way the western media outlets (Ehem, NBC) are covering everything is making it annoying and couldn't agree more with what you said there. the stories are over the top and the political statements seem forced, Its no surprise but given everything that has happened since 2014, they're really using so much stuff and so many people to make a fuck ton of money. Its a shame.

Like it would be pretty wild to be one of the best skiers/snowboarders and be getting paid by fucking toyota or some shit, but the fraction of whats being given and how much these riders are being forced to represent it vs. what the companies will end up actually making off of the olympics is really just downright embarrassing.

Yeah, although I suppose that's a problem with any sport that lacks a huge fan base outside of the olympics. I still think it's great exposure for the athletes. These guys will make bank off of endorsements, etc.

In 2012, everyone claimed that skiing was dead because of slope and pipe being included in the Olympics. Still waiting for the funeral.

And, the Olympics have definitely benefited the athletes that compete in them. And you still have other skiers that have never competed in th Olympics doing just fine.

Skiing was never some huge money making endeavor for kids that like sliding rails and doing the switch. I don’t think the Olympics have benefited anyone other than the athletes who are competing, but I don’t see how it’s hurt everyone else like a lot of people claimed it would.

In fact, it’s probably made it easier for kids all over the world to say shit like, “gosh Mom!!! I’m not wasting my life, I want to be an Olympian!!! Now buy me these fucking adidas track pants and this fucking yoke Dad cap or I’m going to do heroin!”

I need to chime in here for a second, because I've seen nothing but negativity about the Olympics coverage on this site.
I understand its the internet, and we're here to bitch and say whatever you want, but no one seems to have an alternative solution to anything.

I'm out here at Bokwang Phoenix Snow Park, covering the Halfpipe, moguls, and aerials events, I've been here since the beginning of the month, and don't leave for another 10 days. For over the past 10 years, I've worked in the broadcast industry, more specifically, in the sports industry, and even further forward in spectator events like Alpine skiing, hockey, Calgary Stampede, etc.

I work for OBS, which is the host broadcaster for all the events. This is my first time with the company, and from what I've seen, we provide a pretty unbiased coverage of the sports. We try not to focus too much on any rider, there are the olympic hopefuls, as well as the athletes that are of course, dominating the sport.
NBC is the other main broadcaster rights holder here, a lot of their coverage comes off of us, they have some cameras at start and finish lines, as well as cameras at the start of many events like Slopestyle, Halfpipe, Moguls, etc.. What you guys see on NBC is what the average American viewer wants to see; A cinderella story, recovery story, or homegrown hero story. So of course this coverage is going to be biased, or patriotic. It's what sells to the people back home., I don't really know what kind of coverage you'd expect...

I can go further and further into this rant, but I'd really rather not to. I'm tired.

Like casual pointed out above me, just enjoy the games for what they are. It's a gathering of nations to show their pride and showcase their best athletes. Being up here, I've never felt more happy to be Canadian somewhere. The amount of stoke I've shared with everyone from the coaches at last nights Mogul win with Kingsbury, to the coaches I've met that support a few solo athletes representing smaller countries is something I'll never see anywhere else (yet).
So enjoy these games, look at how far your sports have come. come 2022, Big Air will be introduced into the games, and I'm sure you'll have something negative to say about that as well.

I'm super stoked to watch the slopestyle, since I won't have any events that day until the evening. Even more stoked to be at the top when all the skiers drop into the pipe.

I totally agree that the Olympics are cringe worthy a lot of times (announcing, promos, uniforms, opening ceremonies) and I absolutely hate when people/companies who arent as ingrained in these sports monetize the fuck out of the athletes/competitions for these two weeks.

~BUT~

If you cant understand that this is an awesome experience for the guys who get to compete and be a part basically the only thing that unites the world (albeit briefly and a bit superficially) you're a bigger problem than the cheesy comeback stories and crappy announcing.
