Why do you post in ski gabber?

I run into so many people on the slopes that love park skiing just as much as me and know of NS, but would never get involved in a forum. I guess im curious what makes people come here and be somewhat active, vs why other people who also love the ski seen don't bother.

I can usually get the industry news the fastest on here so I don't have to follow 500 ski pages on instagram. I also just like forum websites in general for discussion.

I would bet a good amount of people start accounts here to ask a question about new skis, other gear, how to do tricks, etc. and end up staying and posting more. I've been directed here from Google more than a few times to read threads, but the classic "which ski should I get" is why I made an account. Seeing tons of these threads everyday, I would like to apologize for creating one of the thousands of them. I also had a forum account on EpicSki, but they shut the forum down last spring. Hence another reason I'm here. The TGR forum looks too prehistoric compared to NS- also another reason I chose this.

It is a great way to talk about skiing and read stuff during the off-season when you're bored and yearning to ski, even though it's 6 months away. It also is a nice way to waste time at work.

Skiing is an addiction, so when you're not skiing, this forum serves as a nice way to partially fill that void.

People have different reasons. I spend more time when I'm buying or selling gear. for some I'm sure it's their compulsive dopamine fix a la insta. Some enjoy forums others enjoy armchair skiing. Even others enjoying discussing the technical side of skiing - that's awesome too.

What I don't get is judgment by one camp against another 🤨

The alternative sports board of 4chan got completely overrun by WWE wrestlefags about a year ago. It was so comfy too, and I guess I'm looking for that vibe again. So far, not finding it, sense of humor is completely different here.

This actually isn't true unless everyone on here is a liar. I made a survey about a year ago asking people on here what tricks they could do and the results were pretty surprising. I'll get those posted up here one of these days

No upvotes and downvotes make a big difference. It's very easy to click the dislike button, it's much more meaningful to write a coherent post about what you like or don't like about something. Anonymity makes a big difference too, just a better, less pretentious atmosphere. Let's be real here, you guys might not like to hear it, but skiing can be pretty pretentious. Just something I'm a little more used to I suppose.

I for sure spend a lot more time reading then posting. I feel like its been a great way for me to learn more about the sport I wish I had started sooner in my life. I didn't get into freestyle until kind of late and I'm disappointed in myself. I get on the forums to stay current but also use them to find some sick history.

Better community despite the amount of members. You gotta remember that reddit has like millions of users from all over the globe so it makes sense that theres more traffic, even for the not-as-popular subs.

r/skiing is alright but sometimes you want to put your head through a wall over there. Its not perfect but its also annoying having it be this constant circle jerk of "no bad thoughts! no posts disagreeing with anyone, everyone needs to get along!". Like you'll get banned if you say you don't like some goobers terrible POV edit or something. Its totally wack, and its a constant thing all over that website.

There was one thread I remember of some really rad POV edit at snowbird of some dude hammering and one of the top comments was "pretty cool but does he need to ski like that around people?". Go fuck yourself with thoughts like that, lol.

The up/down vote functionality was actually removed for a period of time under the exact premise that you described. Sadly, it didn't work. People are too lazy to write out coherent responses. the voting was eventually added back after many many requests. I'm with you on this one though

I came for the cults, I stayed to drink and troll the fuck out of the forums, next thing I know I was attached to this place.

I feel like it's just nice to see skiing/talk skiing. If I walk up to a random stranger somewhere outside of the ski towns they'd prolly be like "Yo, what the fuck is a train park? Sounds dumb". I'm pretty obsessed with the ski industry and terrain parks, so this place isn't too bad.

Also if you've been a part of a place for long enough, sometimes you just can't leave. NS can hurt my feelings, break my heart, but I'll always keep crawling back. It's all I know and I guess it's all I deserve.

It gives us skiing addicts something to do while we are not out in the snow. I am hurt at the moment and cant ride so this allows me to feel like I am still involved with this great skiing community. I dig reading through the comments for advice and to see what is going on around the world and it is much better than Facebook.
