Are Daymakers right for me?

Im just getting in to touring and it doesn’t look like a full on touring set up is in the cards for me anytime soon. My plan is to mostly do sidecountry/slackcountry stuff with maybe one or two short winter camping trips this season (and if it matters Im located in VT and all of this will be done in that area). I also like the flexibility of using different skis on different days that the daymakers allow for. Have any of you guys used them? What do you think? Are they daymakers or day ruiners?

Theyre better than the old alpine treckers thats for sure..



and yeah for sidecountry where you're not really going back up as far as you're skiing down they're fine for getting around on.

The weight is my major complaint.



As for using different skis on different days... are you going to really buy skins for all your skis?

I have a pair of alpine trekkers I'm looking to get off my hands, it's a full set and I have a set for parts as well. Looking for around $150 if your interested. People can hate all they want on them but they did me well for my first year touring.

They make a skin that works on multiple different skis.

sure, but depending on the size & waist difference of all of his skis they might not be optimal, he's gunna have to trim them down to the smallest pair

That being said I do see the appeal of them if you really don't care about weight

No trim necessary, they aren't on the website anymore but they had skins that were 2 strips so you could space them in or out to fit all of you skis. They had two sizes one for skis 105 underfoot and bigger and a pair for skis 105 and under.

You are thinking about split climbing skins. Google and you will find a few of them out there. I have no experience but people say they are not as good and more for low angle or for guides to keep around in case their guest forgets skins.
