Beartooth Basin Info

Hoping to ski bum at Beartooth this Spring/Summer instead of Timberline.

Who's been up there?
What is camping like?
Do you think they will open similar to last year?
Should I just go to Timberline?

Dude, take a chance on it and do it this summer, you will not regret it. Southern Montana is just about the only place it has been snowing consistently this winter and they've already announced they will be open again this summer.

The camping is free up there. No cell service but you get the full outdoor experience in the woods. Free camping is located just past the forest service pay sites, take rd 2412 to where it almost turns into rd 421 on the far left. (I circled the money spot)

You should do a week at Beartooth then head to Timberline. There are enough lines to ski up there to keep you busy all summer but there is not as much of a scene as Timberline. Come out for the Summer Session!

I might do it. I was supposed to head out for the slopestyle 3 or 4 years ago but it didn't go down because of the weather.

I haven't been riding that much this season but I'd be down to get some ski bum life going on.

I decided not to do the southern hem this season. Taking a year off and traveling around the states in my car a bunch again. Would be perfect to spend a few weeks out there

Hopefully the snow is good enough this year for the slopestyle as well. But I'm down to just ride some big lines, camp out, and crush some beers.

Sander knows what's up. The M-K campground just before you head up the Montana side of the pass seems to be where most of the skiers congregate.

I went to Beartooth for three days and nights last year during the ON3P session and had a banger time. Definitely planning to hold down a campsite for 2 weeks or so this year. I recommend finding a site along the stream so you can take ice cold river baths instead of rotting in your filth. The basin is a great time, but if you have some BC knowledge, there are some crazy lines to ski further up the pass to keep it interesting. Honestly one of the more memorable weekends of my life.

I guess my only hesitation with Beartooth was if the $300 pass was worth it overall.
Does Beartooth have enough in-bounds stuff to keep me occupied for a month straight or should I just go for a shorter trip?

The way how much snow there is in that area, I would say pull the trigger on a pass. Only reason I’m not is if I go it’s gonna be less than a week.

Inbounds is kind of plain, but there's like a 20 foot cornice, several big rock sends, and they get a pretty creative park built by the first week of June. I don't think I'd do a whole month. Two weeks or so seems like where the fun would taper off.
