Thoughts On Back Protectors

Ive been doing spins onto reils for a while and i have slipped out a couple of times and almost hit my back. It seems logical to get a back protector, what do you tgink, has anyone used them, and whats a good one.

Never seen one in person but have thought about getting a hip and back pad this season and probably will now that I actually got hurt. Getting hurt on a rail and being unable to ski for the next few days is the worst.

Just wear one under your sweater and nobody will care. The thought of a mouth guard (especially for freeride) is becoming more appealing every day.

Can't name a situation where a back protector would hinder you, and once you've got one on you might totally forget that its there. Might as well get one to be safe and have that piece of mind as well.

Get one! I have the poc vest and I barely even notice it being on, definitely doesn't hinder my skiing and it's saved me a few times. Also have the hip/ass pads which are clutch when you slide out on rails. No shame in preventing injury.

There was this foam one I bought for bmx made by 686 called the straight jacket. It was like a foam vet. Super light and worked pretty well. I didn't end up using it that much though and sold it. Im 2001 ish I paid like $65 for it. I tried to find them online but coundlt. Soething similar would be perfect imo though. lightweight, easily fit under your outerwear, protect you on rails, but not hinder mobility. I think the plastic ones are just too much material, and too rigid for park That's just my opinion though. I'm sure people roll with them in the park.

Only problem I've had with mine is giving a false sense of confidence. I tore the fuck out of my shoulder with a back protector/hip pads on, now I wear a back protector, hip pads, shoulder brace, and a knee brace, I feel like Robocop when I'm suiting up

I’ve owned 2. The first one was a soft shell POC and it was really nice. Unfortunately it was stolen. I got a hard shell back protector afterwards and it sucked ass. I couldnt twist my upper body in it without it slipping out of place. Haven’t worn one since.

I wear my slytech naked pro whatever the fuck every time I ski. It's so light and flexible that I never notice it weighing me down or hindering my sets, and you really cant tell that im wearing it. All the while it serves as an added layer of insulation and just enhances to your confidence when youre mobbing through the park.

I use a POC one and barely even noticed. Its pretty nice for taking diggers onto your back. As a bonus (or not) they keep you pretty warm as a layer. it can get a lil sweaty though

I’ve got a poc one for freeride and it’s definitely chill to have, helps with confidence and it doesn’t make a difference for setting 3s or backies. Also super comfy under a sweatshirt or something, can’t even tell it’s there

I got one that doesn't effect my skiin at all. I backslap sometimes too, so if there is a rock or piece of ice and I land on it, it doesn't hurt. Only benefits from the protector. It cost like 80€ at the time i bought it

ALWAYS use back protectors!! Its comfortable and it kinda warms u. I fucked up my back when i fell of a rail onto my back on the ice. Having real problems ever since

I have a forcefield soft shell one and it can't rate it enough! It's good at its job but doesn't effect my skiing at all, and is nice and warm if riding just in a hoody

What kind of shoulder brace do you use? I'm looking for recommendations since I'm recovering from dislocating mine

I've been using the Salomon one for 4-5 years now. It's awesome. I never notice I'm wearing it, but it provides the protection when it's needed.

I ordered the harlaut signature slytech it comes in soon ill let u know, i got it for 60 bucks on sideline swap. There a couple left.

I have one but I rarely use it. Having a back protector, for me at least, is annoying; especially while sitting on the lift or gondola dfor a long period of time as it starts to make my backache. Personally, I stopped using mine do to it being uncomfortable and annoying but maybe it'll work better for you.

I have one that its quite soft, I forget its there. It has saved me many times and it has never bothered

I started using POC hip pads about 5 years ago after continually landing on the same hip. Last year I went and bought a POC back protector as well. I got about 6 days in last year with it and a couple of times on rails and side hits it has paid for itself. It gets sweaty but my goal these days is to have fun and not get injured so I’m all on board with the back protectors.
