Symptoms of too wide of a boot?

Wider fit = looser fit
Looser fit = toe bang, shin bang, general discomfort, worse skiing performance.

Always get into a boot that is snugger than looser. It is easy to make space it is hard to shrink it down. Also remember that a new boot is the tightest the boot will ever be- it will only get looser. So if you have slop/foot movement in a new boot, it will be a lot worse after 10-20 days of skiing.

The right/proper fit should feel like a firm hand shake. Not trapped in a vice (too tight), nor allowing your heel to lift or foot to shift side to side (too loose). If you've been fine in 98mm-ish boots, stick with them.

i tried going down your route and it didnt work for me. I use to be in 98 last boots for ever and measured my foot at 104. thought getting the nordica speedmachine 130 at 100 last would be fine. boy was i wrong. I could experience cramping in my foot just from trying to keep my feet from moving in the boot when skiing causing me to lose confidence in my skiing. Ended up buying new boots after only 6 days in the speedmachine. Not only was the last too wide so was the rest of the boot when they built it. Like OneNerdyKid said, its much more difficult to make a boot fit smaller. I could not for the life of me get the corkfit liner to mold smaller. Just didnt end up being the boot for me.

Settled on the atomic hawx ultra 120s and havent looked back. For a 26.5 they are the smallest shell ive ever seen and very light yet they fit like a glove and i have no movement at all. In the event you find the boots a lil tight, try changing to a thinner sock or getting a custom footbed. By the 10th day on the Hawx they are perfectly broken in and inspire confidence in my skiing as all energy is transmitted from my foot to the edge with minimal effort. There is virtually no energy lost in the boot at all. They are super easy to get on and the plastic shell they are using on them now doesnt seem to change flex regardless of temperature. The support around the heel and Achilles is perfect and locks you in.

Wide last boots are usually more voluminous all around as well. Definitely go with a narrower boot and expand it where needed

remember to make sure its the Ultras. Atomic makes them in Ultra (98mm), prime (100mm), and magna (102mm).
