I’m taking a trip to whitefish MT mid February. I’m wondering if any of you have rode or ride there and how is the snow that time of year. I’ve never rode outside of the northwest.
I went last season in mid feb, it was foggy and storming one day, sunny the next few days. Chair one is the place to be if there's any fresh snow, but it often opens late. I skied north bowl & the east rim a bunch on the pow day I got, it was fun! When it was foggy, chair 7 had good visibility, so I lapped that, fun, steep trees. The top of chair one chairline had a few good launchpads too. Park was so so... not the worst I've seen, I didn't ski it much. Have fun out there, it's a cool place!
Local here. February can be pretty hit or miss, depending on the year. There have been years where it dumps all month, but we've also had dry spells during that time too. I guess that's how it can be anywhere though. However, this year we've been getting a lot of snow so if the trend continues you should be riding in pow town while you're there. We have a 103" base so everything is covered up and you can ski anywhere you want.
If you're looking to hot lap some sweet tree runs I'd recommend Chair 7, or the new Chair 5 over the East Rim area. East Rim is pretty gnarly and there's a lot of really fun terrain to explore over there, especially if there's good snow. The park was pretty so so last time I was at home (about a month ago) but with the amount of snow we have I'd be willing to bet they have the jump line open and some new features. Big Mountain (aka Whitefish) is a rad mountain. You'll love it
