Cool Summer Jobs

I know this thread is probably a little early but I’m trying to plan my summer early so I can leave as soon as this east coast shit show of a winter is over. Where have you spent summers and what were you doing there? I’ve spent the past 4 summers in Ocean City Maryland and honestly I’m so tired of that nasty place. I’m wanting to go bigger this summer, thinking about looking for summer jobs in parks or beaches. I’m open to going pretty much anywhere in the US to check it out

make good money, learn and see cool things, stay in shape, and possibly travel.
hard work but super fun.

if that doesn’t tickle your fancy go work at hood with everyone and their moms dog

I worked as a lifeguard my past 3 summers and the last one managing the pool. I honestly really want to get a job at a ski camp, have you considered that?

You could go for an internship in a city that you want to live in. It will help you get a better job down the road

I lifeguard and teach swimming, which sounds cool until people ask about the red marks on your body (kids nails)
reffing soccer use to be a great way for some exercise

Ive heard places like Canadian Tire are really lax if thats what you are about

You could spend a summer working at one of the marinas at Lake Powell. It's hot as hell there but that place is sick. Chill out in the sun all day and you get to spend tons of time wakeboarding or waterskiing or whatever lake thing it is that you like to do. Pay sucks but it's still fun.

As for a real suggestion, hotels usually look for seasonal staff. The jobs usually are not fun, but its pay and free stay in a nice location.

Find the nearest golf course and caddy. you can make like 250 in 4 hours, without having a set schedule.

Op go to Alaska. That’s where the best summer jobs are. I spent 3 summers in Denali and it was dope as fuck.

Find something super relaxed in retail. Find a ski shop or something to work at because you get paid decent wages (if you’re good), get industry deals, and get free shit from reps plus you get to meet some pretty cool people through it.

I worked at a car rack shop last summer and the environment was super laid back, I mean we had a pingpong table in the middle of the showroom and a couple couches + a kegerator in the waiting area. Plus, through jobs classified as ‘outdoor industry’ you can get deals through Experticity and stuff for skiing gear and the like.

Pretty sure windells employees make like 80 dollars every session so if you want to actually make money this summer I would suggest doing something that’s not that

Pretty sure u get a free pass for the summer and you’ll get paid more being a busser or a waitor at tline.

I worked as a Lifeguard which was super cool you sit around all day when its rainy and nobody is there and then basically get paid for sitting on a chair. I was at a beach pretty similar to what they have in Ocean City I think although it is not nasty at all, the job pays great and overtime is key. Also girls love lifeguards.

Girdwood is so sick. Would of spent a winter there after summer but they couldn’t guarantee housing for my job and like any winter ski town housing prices go up.
Summer though seems super chill.
All the salmon you could ever possibly eat.

Getting a job in Alaska is like shooting fish in a barrel. Just fill out online applications for everything that seems cool or things want to try and see who ask you to work.
Always ask if housing is free or subsided and if they provide meals. That will save you tons of money in Alaska.

The only places I would say not work at is like north of Fairbanks. That’s pretty desolate country up there. I thinks it’s like only 15% of Alaskans live farther north than Fairbanks.

Hawaii seems dope but to go there in summer time seems like it be to hot. I know a lot of people who would spend winter in Hawaii but then move back to AK for the summer. They tell me Hawaii is best in the winter. But I’ve never been.

As someone who live in Alaska, theres definitely some pretty cool jobs to get here. If you're strong and young, the coolest job to have is on seining boats, bow pickers or set netters. Anywhere they're fishing is gonna be super cool and you can make some serious dough. Its sorta hard to get these jobs though. The main way is knowing someone in the business, but there are sometimes offers on kenai/cordova/anchorage craigslist. Most of the captains are pretty cool, but being a pansy is highly frowned upon

Cost of living while trying to actually make money is less than ideal, no idea about what those jobs actually pay though.

I’m thinking about trying to do something with WWOOF so that way I can have a free place to live and maybe pick up a part time job when I have some time. I’m not trying to make a bunch of money, I just want to enjoy my summer and go somewhere cool while I’m young and still have no responsibilities

So yo maybe then don't spew random numbers, you've never worked there. It varies by job and isn't a lot but for most positions it's more than that. Worth mentioning that you also get free food, lodging, and a pass. Overall it evens out somewhat comparably to a regular summer job if you're paying for food and rent.

every job is different, I had a job offer @ windels for 250 a week and they cover food/housing+free skiing

You could be like a camp counselor or something (depending on the camp). My friend does that during the summer and she teaches kids how to mountain bike and paddle board and stuff. Sounds fun compared to a lot of summer jobs and she gets crazy discounts on renting or buying all sorts of equipment.

If you don't get seasick being a deckhand on the west coast is decent. Any coastal tourist town will have fishing charters or whale watching. The pay is decent, tips can be good, and when I worked in Monterey, CA, I got to see humpback whales, blue whales, dolphins, and Mola Molas every day. The beginning can be rough, but once you get your sea legs the crews are good people and tourists are fun to talk to.

Im going down to work at a ecolodge in Costa Rica... never thought I would actually make it out of the states but this is my last year before college and am hoping to explore in case I dont like college.

Look at workaway programs if youre looking to get far but dont really need pay, or there are some vry cool fishing boats in alaska that you can make bank on.

Did a very brief stint with EPI down in coasta rica and got to work with leatherback sea turtles. Definitely a 10/10 time if you don’t mind bugs and a lack of modern amenities. Beautiful oceans and way cool jungles, if I wasn’t a ski bum I’d definately be shacking up on a beach somewhere haha.

My ass is not lazy and I know exactly what goes into WWOOF. It’s hard work and a good learning experience, I’ve done it before

I was considering working up in Washington at a yacht resort in Roche Harbor. You should look it up. They also network with most Alterra company resorts which means you'll be able to get first-dibs on badass ski resort jobs at really cool mountains.
