Will Women Throw Down in the Olympics?

Lets be real, women have been stepping up their game in the world of freestyle skiing but are still a decade behind men. Anyone think a comp as large as the olympics attracting the best from all the world could be what it takes to get some doubles thrown, future spins, or grabs? If so who is it gonna be pushing it?

hype and pressure can bring out some great stuff, but at sochi the jumps were big and mean (as they should be!) and i wonder if that doesnt put the girls on their heels a little. idk, id love to see them impress but i also wouldnt necessarily blame them for taking a more conservative approach to try to get a medal, that is, lay down a solid run they know they can do as opposed to rolling the dice

Women should just stop trying to catch up to men in the comp scene. It’s never going to happen. They should focus more on other aspects like filming, urban, style, etc.

You don't see men's and women's gymnastics or men's and women's volleyball or marathon running or cycling or any other sport have this attitude. It's a different competition and women aren't trying to live in the shadow of the men or catch up to the men... They're trying to push their own discipline.

I understand that but people watch skiing to see gnarly tricks. Im
sure the average joe would rather watch a guy huck triples instead of a girl doing switch 5s. Competitions are exciting because of the wow factor, girls aren’t quite there yet

Watch the link above, and men were not always doing gnarly tricks. Everyone has to start somewhere.

If women focus on skiing urban and they ski urban anything like they ski comp they wouldn't be hitting anything nearly as gnar as men and i feel like that would only push them more into the shadow.

That switch dub 10 was dope though!!! I wanna see it put down in a run!

Comps are necessary for the progression of the sport. Look how far woman have come in the last 5 years.

A cork 7 was a gold medal caliber trick for the men 15-20 years ago. Those comps would be really boring by today's standards, but were very necessary to get us to where we are today. The same can/will be said about woman's comps. Kelly is going to change everything or that sport and it's next generation.

I enjoy watching the womens skiing - it's refreshing to watch tricks that I definitely can't do; not just tricks that I can't even get my head around how the fuck they are even attempted.

Fuucckk I thought Kelly was gonna go, would be insane to see a won. Was hoping shed magically recover her acl in time, she has 2 potential olympics ahead anyways.


Too OP, probably will see good shit, Maggie has a dank rodeo 9 and other girls can cork now.

So tired of hearing neckbeards talk about "let's be honest the girls just aren't there yet, here's what I think they should do different. I'm qualified to make that judgement because I have a big ol floppy penis, like the guys who compete."

Bitch are you hitting 80ft jumps switch? Are you doing both way cork 7s on 80 jumps? No? Then sit the fuck down and appreciate these badasses. I for one rather enjoy seeing girls throw down harder than I do. It makes me realize how much more hardcore they really are, given their biological disadvantages and lower participation rates.

The vast majority of people at that level have been around long enough to realize that womens skiing is at a completely different level and athletes aren't gonna risk injury just to say they did something that kids on ns think is cool. If a girl can win without doing a dub, why should they do a dub? Until someone comes around with a completely different mindset the progression will only be what it takes to win a comp.

Saying that woman can't compete anywhere near the level of men is nonsense. Look at ariels woman do triples all the time. That said I was rather disapointed watching most of the olympic qualifiers, most of the top runs were sloppy 5s or not even spinning on rails. What happened to pulling out switch 10s or inverted tricks? Still I'm greatful for skiers like Lisa or Kelly, and the couple of others out there pushing the sport.

This is actually pretty badass.

If there is more of this at the Olympics and less DLo grabbed 5s it will be really fun to watch. I'm hoping some of the European girls are holding back just trying to stay safe up to the Games. To my knowledge there is nobody on the US team that has a double and it is rare to see any slide a rail weakside. From Canada I think Kim Lamarre has a really sketchy double-back. A few of girls have eaten shit with that one so Godspeed.

Bottom line it would be cool to see the progression awarded. Without Kelly there hoping there are a few to push the field and make it really fun to watch.
