Goepper's X Games BEING Video - Thoughts?

Just saw this on Youtube and was curious to see what the ski community thought of it. I'm sorry for Nick and that he went through this, but it really feels like X Games / ESPN are just leveraging the story to promote... well X Games I guess. It just seems like they're turning skiing into reality TV.

Not at all. I like knowing about the person behind the ski's as well as watching them compete. Successful athletes are probably the most interesting people you can listen when it comes to the mental side of life. To be constantly good is hard on the mind and body.

I thought this X games Being video was really informative.

I don't think they're trying to turn sports into reality TV. Everywhere in entertainment today plays stories that hit on the emotional level. ESPN has been doing it for a while. NBC does it nonstop on The Voice. It helps viewers connect on a personal level with the stars, and it also drives ratings up.

As far as Nick Goepper, it just goes to show you that no one is exempt from depression and substance abuse. Poor or rich. Successful or failures. Famous or your everyday person. It can hit everyone. PSA: don't be afraid to ask for help before it's too late. Your friends and family will be more helpful and accepting than you may think.

I have really enjoyed this series. It's nice being able to get to see a bit more about the athletes and bring them back down to a personal level. Glad to hear things have turned around for him. I know he's definitely not the only one who has had these problems. And like said above, never be afraid to ask for help if you are feeling this way. Your family and friends are always there to help.

Yea this stuff gets annoying when trying to watch the events but if his story or anyone elses can help somebody I think its worth it. That being said I, thats not the reason media outlets do these stories, they only do them to get more viewers and try to make skiing or whatever more interesting to people who dont give a shit about the actual sport.

I think that these videos and promotions are not necessarily directed towards the NS/Die Hard skiing fan base. Rather the purpose is to draw in the general public to get viewership on the events, thus making more money. Many people on NS may not care about things like Nicks background story, but its definitely a way for networks like ESPN to gain more viewership from people outside of the skiing niche. If you don't like it nobody's forcing you to watch it, just remember that its stuff like this that helps fund events like X-Games and bring sponsors to the events so don't hate too hard.

You know who the biggest kook is? A dumb motherfucker that basically harps on the same shit that the skateboarding community did 30 years ago with Hawk and Hosoi. I know you have trouble with originality, your site tells us that.

Meh. What you're saying is "It's cool if you ski, just don't be a real person" I want to see nothing more than skiing, and some fake smiles and happy interviews. Fuck that honestly.

I do dislike the pull for views in the media. I remember my mom watching America's got talent, and the story was always more about how some girls dog she rescued from Antarctica got hit by a bus and it made her sad but she found a love for singing or something than actual singing. They wanted to make a story out of anything and everything. Some of them you could see there was a story, some you could see they were just sending anything to make it emotional.

That said, people actually follow skiers. Even though we see them just skiing, they're still real people. In a world where everything is scripted social media presence it's good for people to see that these are still humans.

Also people love understanding more about a person in sports.

20 million + organic distro this week... Alone you obviously have no idea how the FB algorithm works.. I have posts with 80 k likes and some with 5 .. it depends on if its video or linked content to a website. and for the record, I've had 3 jobs several times in my life and wake up at 5am every single day and probably work much harder than most. you have no idea you just assume things that you have no proof to back up.. I express my opinions people don't like that.. and I'm fine with being hated.. but your argument is null and void. look up my Alexia ranking dumb ass.
