soopsWe know that CT can ski anything. He's a park rat gone big mountain gone artsy. Was he the best park skier in his time? Maybe. Was he the best big mountain slayer in his time? Maybe. Are his videos the freaking best? Probably..
SPK_C'mon man, when you win X-Games' big air, pipe, and slope, break your back then come back winning FWT on your first appearance 3 years later, and film the most watched skiing video ever, I don't think "Maybe" is the answer to "Was he the best in his time?"...

NomoutainCandide is the best all terrain skier, but that doesn't make him the BEST skier in the world.
dan4060What WOULD make him the best skier?
I am not committed to the idea that Candide is the best ever, but he might very well be. Other candidates would be Shane McConkey, Sage, Jonny Moseley and Daron Rahlves. Rahlves was never the best all-around, but no one else has been THAT great of a racer AND one of the best big mountain skiers ever. In terms of pure skiing ability I think Rahlves is in the conversation. Jonny Moseley was probably the best all-around skier back in 2002. Winning an Olympic medal, then revolutionizing that discipline by taking off-axis 720's into the bumps in pretty incredible. He also could destroy big mountain lines, he was one of the best big mountain skiers in the world at one point. I wish he had stayed in the game.
McConkey could do everything, but it was his billygoating that really stood out to me. He could also tear stuff up and do tricks off of cliffs, but his billygoating in There's Something About McConkey was nuts. The technical ability he had to ski ledge to ledge drops was just nuts, that is incredible skiing. When he was a big mountain competitor I remember reading about how he would see technical lines that no one else could see, then piece them together in a way no one else could. McConkey was the best big mountain competitor of his time. He was also a great racer and a pro bump skier.
Another name which would probably surprise some of you is Henrik Windstedt. He nearly made the Swedish Olympic team as a bumper, competed in the xgames in park, and won the FWT title one year. Also, watch Salomon Freeski TV's "The Battle of Alaska." It is some of the best skiing I have ever seen.
Sage is better at skiing spine walls than anyone else. He also does tricks in big mountain terrain like it is his job. He can hit backcountry kickers, ski the park....He does not have much of a competitive record but I'm sure he could have skied on the FWT if he had put his mind to it. I would say he has more great video segments than just about anyone else, he has won lots of best performance awards from Powder, and he has probably deserved a couple he has not gotten.
Mark Abma deserves mention too.
Hoji is incredible and should be brought up.
Tanner Hall has put together some great stuff. He dominates in every facet of the sport.
Seth Morrison was in the conversation at his peak. I remember CR Johnson talking about how when you see Seth ski in person it is just mind-blowing. CR would had been a candidate had he not gotten hurt.
Kye Peterson's performance in Numinous blew me away this year.
I guess I would probably say Candide is the best if I had to go with one guy, I just don't think it is quite as clear cut as some do. I would really like to see another Few Words, or at least another Candide Kamera.
RyhanDamn, wall of text. You need a hobby.
